OJ (full name Olivia Johnson) is a DJ and aspiring producer in Los Angeles. It was an easy choice for the Seattle native to keep the nickname - it happens to rhyme quite well with DJ. By day she wields words and creativity as a PR specialist, but in 2019 she decided to apply that knack for storytelling to her main passion: creating musical experiences as a DJ. Pre-COVID she would regularly spin at Westside spots like The Little Friend and Nameless, but during the pandemic has embraced Twitch as a way to find new audiences. She believes music is the most gratifying way to experience and process emotion, and draws further inspiration from dark dancefloors she’s experienced around the world. Expect plenty of acid, techno and breaks alongside chunky, jackin’ house when she’s on the decks. A house head at heart, her multifaceted, multi-genre mixes also fuse ‘90s house anthems with pop and hip hop edits. With a drive second to none, stay tuned for what’s to come from OJ.

His tireless tunes have circulated through the sets of elite DJs around the world — most notably with Jack Ü cohorts Skrillex and Diplo — leading to releases on reputable imprints like Mad Decent and Main Course. Now, G-Buck takes his talents to new heights with the ShakeLine / Toma EP out today on NEST, ushering in a fully graduated sound that pairs relentless club energy with precise production work.

“ShakeLine” acts as the vocal-driven A-side to the release featuring hype from NOLA’s FlyBoi Keno, who just made big waves recently with his inclusion on Jack Ü’s “Beats Knockin“. Just like in the Skrill & Diplo bruiser, FlyBoi Keno brings the party vibes in “ShakeLine” with his booming voice and tenacious style. Turntablist, Four Color Zack, scratches up the track for the full effect, and G-Buck’s siren-esque synth blasts and huge snare snaps make this tune a real monster. “Toma” follows up as the ferocious, bouncy B-side — speeding along at 160BPM with whizzing leads and syncopated kick drums. It’s a feat of controlled chaos; something G-Buck is gradually becoming known for.

I went back to my UK Roots for this 25 YEARS OF DRUM & BASS collection under my DJ ANUBIS3.0 moniker...

THE ART & SCIENCE OF RUDE BOY TINGS - Vol 1 (Insomniac OG - DJ ANUBIS3.0 Drum & Bass Mix 2021)

It all started with a bassline (my favorite part of any song). Once I finished the drums and added some melody stabs (see if you can name the piano sample as quickly as @tj-pruden did) it still needed something else, so I dug through my acapella library and came across “Kariboo Chant” by DJ Technic (thanks for the acapella plug @djbabsmusic ). The vocal harmonies instantly brought everything to life and added some soul to the track!
