ATLANTA — We have received more updates and confirmation of our initial reporting in regards to Superica Krog's management failing to act in response to an employee testing positive for COVID-19.

This recording was submitted to us by a Superica Krog employee in Atlanta whose name we are keeping anonymous for their protection. We have confirmed the employment of this employee and the details of their account. This conversation took place between the employee and the restaurant's general manager discussing the restaurant's decision to remain open after another employee was confirmed to test positive for COVID-19. 

An employee from Superica Krog came to us Sun., July 19, with a detailed account explaining that another employee reported COVID symptoms to management and later tested positive. Management was notified. They did not close or report to the public; business proceeded as usual. When they told management they were experiencing COVID symptoms, they were told by management they would be terminated if they did not come into work. We were told other employees exhibited symptoms and were pressured to come to work, as well.

According to this call, which took place on Tue, July 21, the business has not closed and doesn‘t plan to. This recording was submitted to us in the interest of public safety and out of concern of employees’ and guests‘ wellbeing. We deemed this reckless management and behavior during a global pandemic of a deadly virus and in turn reported this case to make it public knowledge. 

Since Monday, numerous Rocketfarms Restaurants employees have spoken up to us directly to support these employees and their claims. We have yet to receive a single message from an employee at RFR countering this story. A recording sent to us by an employee at Superica Krog to further expand on what is happening there in regards to the restaurant’s handling of COVID-19 in the establishment. 

Bottom line: management knew at least one employee was exposed to COVID-19 and still threatened to terminate the employee if they didn’t come to work, placing other employees + guests in danger. After they learned the employee tested positive for COVID, they did not announce publicly, did not close, and did not give employees time to quarantine or get tested. This recording is for you all to discern if this is fair treatment of restaurant workers during a global pandemic. Thank you to the employee for bringing this forward. 

More and more employees from Rocketfarm Restaurants — reports now coming from nearly all of their establishments — have continued to reached out to us directly to further corroborate this story and share their own experiences. We are currently investigating the claims and researching further. We have been approached by  hosts, servers, bartenders, and managers.

Other employees from Superica Krog chimed in thanking the other employee and us for letting this information free, saying “it’s all true” and “we’re all miserable.” Another RFR employee said, “Sadly, most of our voices are being silenced and threatened.” As long as restaurant workers are coming forward to expose the conditions and inactions of establishments to keep the public safe during the spread of the deadly coronavirus virus, we are going to keep reporting it.

It is important to note the constant oppression, inequality, and constant social welfare we seem to be fighting against, while also acknowledging that all Black womxn’s experience may not be the same and each of our experiences should be valued and validated.

Black womxn between the ages of 7 and 93 have been victims of police brutality and violence. Sandra Bland, Shelly Frey Miriam Corey, Shantel Davis, Malissa Williams, Kathryn Johnson, Kendra Jones, Gabriella Nevarez, Breonna Taylor.

At least 22 Black trans or non-binary folx have been killed in the U.S. this year. Brayla Stone, Nina Pop, Dominique Fells, Bubba Walker, and more.

A recording of Atlanta City Council's session that took place on Mon., July 13, in regards to Ordinance 20-O-1486, a new piece of legislation introduced by Councilmember Antonio Brown earlier in the month. After a substitute was introduced to council offering revisions to the original ordinance, the final vote was a 6-1 to hold the ordinance in committee to be reviewed at a later date.

Bits of contention were displayed between Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard and certain city council members and APD Police Chief Rodney Bryant.
