Recorded as part of Lights Out Listening event in Temple Bar, Dublin for Made in Temple Bar Festival. Commissioned by Temple Bar Cultural Trust in conjunction with Rte Radio. When we hear about FGM in the Media, people are often shocked. But what do we really know about it? "New Beginnings", a radio documentary produced by Mairead Cullen, explores the reasons why it happens and gives a unique insight into the many communities in the Kipkellion district of Kenya who are trying to stop this age old tradition and replace it with an Alternative Rite of passage for their girls.
