“You and Me” is a second collaboration single by an ambient project Endless Melancholy and a Canadian singer-songwriter BILYK set to release September 21st, 2018 on all major music digital platforms. The single release will be accompanied by the official video filmed by the German filmmaker and visual artist Roman Hense. Roman has been collaborating with Endless Melancholy and BILYK since 2017 when their first single and the video “One Day You Will Be Free” were launched. 

After releasing a number of successful instrumental albums, Oleksiy Sakevych, a creator, composer and producer of ‘Endless Melancholy’, was keen to explore a new sound incorporating a female voice. This is when he invited BILYK to be a feature singer and co-writer on the project. BILYK shared similar musical style with Sakevych and was ready for new explorations. But when Hense joined the group he concluded a visual expression of the collaboration and set a mood to the existing sound. The big part of the project’s character was established by Taras Blyzniuk after he produced BILYK’s vocals and mixed both singles at Loud Mouse Studios in Toronto. 

The video is a journey visualisation of an internal world of a person who dreams about eternal love.  The main character starts the search for love in the cold world of the past.

You and Me (feat. BILYK)

Written and recorded over 2 days in South East London, ‘Carried’ is a collaborative EP from violinist Fiona Brice, cellist Tony Woollard and composer/producer Jim Perkins. The project began as an antidote to the sometimes laborious academic tradition of composing, scoring, revising, rehearsing, recording, editing and producing music. 

Each piece was created without score or prior preparation, relying on instinct, discussion and collaboration, with a focus on capturing the energy and essence of an idea whilst it is still fresh. 

The result is a suite of 5 emotive, meditative and distinctive pieces combining drones, elements of minimalism and chamber music with textured harmonics and the occasional melodic line. ‘Carried’ honours the spontaneity and spark of a new idea and nurtures it, creating a deeply engaging and cinematic sound.

Cenes - Hope?

As most of the readers of Headphone Commute are musicians in their own right, they should already be familiar with the Berlin-based Martyn Heyne, who should be known to them as the owner of Lichte Studio, in which so many experimental, ambient, and modern classical albums have been recorded, mixed, mastered, and produced. These include some of the releases by Aukai, Tambour, Kelly James Wyse, Ceeys, Shida Shahabi, Tom Adams, Luke Howard, and Hecq, among the many others. But, of course, since I'm running this track premiere today, Heyne is also an outstanding composer, first appearing on my radar (and indeed these pages) with his 2017 release, Electric Intervals on 7k!. What may be surprising among all of this is that Heyne is also a fantastic guitar player, showcasing his favorite instrument on the upcoming solo album, titled Open Lines. Well, actually, he plays more than one instrument on the album. Among his performance on the electric, acoustic, 12-string, and classical guitar, Rhodes, bass, and piano, there's also the kalimba, bongos, and bells! Not to mention the appearance of the wonderful Anne Mülle on the cello on a couple of tracks, and the Finnish percussionist, Tatu Rönkkö on the drums, with whom Heyne has played live as Efterklang. The album traverses the boundaries of contemporary classical, krautrock, slow-shuffling jazz, and everything in between. The heart of the release, touching upon all of the above-mentioned aesthetics, and my favorite piece as well, is a track titled "Neuwerk." And that is precisely why I am happy to share it with you today.
