For their first release of 2022 on Major Records, Majorettes have compiled Remixes Vol. 2 featuring mixes by Bézier and Sister Zo of their first single "Discotheque”. Bezier's remix brings a thick and moody New Wave vibe to the table and turns it into one of those dancefloor journey tracks of the sort that can truly become timeless. Sister Zo re-imagines the Discotheque with a dark and sexy chug that’ll drive the children to the dancefloor the world over.

California-bred Robert Yang (they/he), also known as @Bezier, is an American DJ and producer. While best known for being one of the earliest members of the queer San Francisco musical collective Honey Soundsystem, Yang also produces under multiple aliases and heads three blooming labels, Bodyzone, m-i-v (short for mémoire involontaire), and his most recent endeavor, Piece of Work. Bézier cut his teeth in the San Francisco scene for a decade, and now toggles between Berlin and SF, where he continues to expand his sound and vision into a cohesive yet dynamic mosaic. 

Zoey Shopmaker aka @SisterZo is a DJ and producer from Kansas City, MO. She runs the record label and collective, UN/TUCK, from her current home in Columbus, OH, where she lives with her partner, Dan Miles. A member and resident host for the regional independent radio, Verge.FM, Zo assists with coordinating skillshares for members of the community as well as holding down her own monthly show, The Inside. She also co-runs the KC-based party, Whole Moods, with her long time friend and collaborator Coughman.

Majorettes - Discotheque (Bézier Remix)

Produced in the depths of quarantine and finally slated for release, Majorettes’ new single “The Waves”. Born from a journey inspired a documentary on the art of sampling, the track was an ongoing project which became a lifeline for Majorettes throughout the long days of the pandemic in the absence of playing out and organizing parties which are so core to the group and the wider Brooklyn house scene they are figureheads of. 

Enlisting three rising peers and producers to rework their original, the trio have curated a stellar EP package to soundtrack fall 2022 and beyond, with some of the most exciting and ones to watch talents in the international underground house scene hailing from Mexico, Colombia and Brooklyn respectively. 

Por Detroit resident and Mexico City upstart Kodemul, delivers a body shaking, exhilarating rework pumped full of energy, rhythmic swirls and fills, and a spell-binding breakdown worthy of any dance floor. “We were blown away by Kodemul’s style and production from the moment we met and many of his tracks have become staples in our sets recently so it was only fitting that we got him on board for this project”. 

Colombian artist, producer, and DJ, ELO, also know as Leeon, is an integral part of Medellín’s dance scene as well as the American underground at large. His rave brake with such grace that it feels extremely fresh and like an old friend at the same time. “While hanging out in the field at Glasontbury’s Block9 this past summer nerding out over each others new productions we knew it would be perfect to have him bring his impeccable style to “The Waves”. 

Brooklyn-based artist PH Balanced takes “The Waves” into an ethereal realm with bubbling vocal effects, pungent pads, and plenty of twists and turns that are smooth, sexy and surprising all at once. “Everyone always ask to hear the PH Balanced remix over and over, you just don’t want it to end. He has such a unique presence in our scene here as both a dj and producer and we can’t wait for the world to soak up his brilliance”.

2023 ushers in a new era of artists beyond Majorettes and the future is looking bright. Our first release brings together an original from UK-based producer, Jamie S, paired with a remix from Major Records label-head and Bunker artist, Justin Cudmore.

With Signals, Jamie S lets us know he is in the driver's seat and he has his foot on the gas. Having been an avid record collector from the tender age of 15, Jamie’s knowledge of many genres in house music runs deep. He has over the years put on his own parties in his hometown of Blackpool in the UK and became a weekly resident at Wired in Wellington, New Zealand.  On Signals, Jamie's pulsing rhythms coupled with the evolution of stabs he lays down will attest to his passion for house. Pay attention to the signs if you wanna go for a ride! 

Justin takes charge with a remix that’s already been burning up floors around NYC. From the very start you know this is gonna be a heater; tough metallics swirl in giving way to a heavy club kick and we’re immediately sucked in. Throw in some gorgeous stabs with a bit of acid and Justin delivers a remix straight outta Brooklyn and ready for the world.

PH Balanced & Josh Steers - OFF ONE

Our 2023 plan to expand the Major catalog to include music by artists in addition to Majorettes is well underway and continues this month with “La Pampara”, a deep and bass-heavy track by Colombian artist ELO (a moniker of the DJ known as Leeon). ELO first appeared on Major Records in 2022 delivering an anthemic remix of “The Waves” by Majorettes. This versatile and excellent producer hails from Bogotá and is known worldwide for his sensual and often darker explorations of dance music. The title track “La Pampara” includes a cheeky vocal that plays against a wobbling acid underbelly. The track has made the rounds in the last couple of months as a demo on far-reaching dance floors before landing at Major Records to our delight. 

On the remix, Mystic Bill takes the “La Pampara” beach party into an acidy moon-rise. Bill is one of our all time favorites of the American underground; his unique sound, developed in Chicago and pumped through Miami, is familiar and beloved to any true house-head. We are so happy to welcome him to the Major Records family.

Jacob Meehan, a native of Roodhouse, Illinois (population 1,700) cut his chops in Chicago, the home of house, while working at Gramaphone Records and throwing/playing parties in and around the city. A major player in the new queer underground, he now resides in Berlin where he has furthered his musical prowess as producer and resident DJ of the much-beloved fête, Buttons, and the epic summer standout, Whole Festival. 

Major Records is pleased to feature the very first single release from Meehan, featuring a remix by our very own Nita Aviance. "Hier" started out with a nod to the forefathers, referencing David Morales and Frankie Knuckles mix of Alison Limerick's "Where Love Lives,” but quickly grew into a deep house dream full of funky synth leads and anthemic arpeggios all layered over some kicky-fresh beats. 

Nita’s remix strips it all down only to build it back up again, leaning into the arpeggios and riding those new wave synths through the dark night and straight into the dawn with her signature diva vocal cut-ups.

“To Be Together” is a full length album I will release with @majorettes_nyc records on October 6th. It’s been over a decade since my last album and this marks work I feel reflects our current moment. Chaos, Confusion, Loss, Hope, Mystery… and most singularly LOVE.

A sense of distance has followed me to Maui. The times are precarious but hopeful. We move forward.
The pleasures of sharing music and the satisfaction of creating something for others fills me with gratitude. Knowing the feedback loop of experience creates the space for love and it’s blessings. I hope to find you there listening…

Our final release of 2023 has Michoacán-born, CDMX-based DJ/producer Don Esquivel delivering two high-energy tunes guaranteed to get the party PUMPING. The Por Detroit (LA/CDMX) resident’s honest approach to house & techno in all its variants has seen his hardware productions signed to labels such as Muy Muy limited (Los Angeles), Amplio Espectro (Buenos Aires), Discos Sentimiento (CDMX), and Get up! Recordings (New York).

First brought to our attention when Paurro played an early version at Somos Festival, we immediately saw the power “Saltando!" had over the crowd. Limitless energy emanates from the speakers with an almost feverish abandon which guaranteed this nasty banger a spot in many of our club and festival sets this past year. Begging for more, “Dick Energy” carries the party down to the waistline with red-light lusciousness and saccharine sleaze. Hot, sexy, wet, and wild, we here at Major Records are beyond thrilled to pass the ravings on to you!

Native New Yorker, John Yienger lands on Major Records’ first release of 2024 with a track that stylishly balances our love of old rave nostalgia and fresh, propulsive modern house music. “Think For Yourself” will bring any dancefloor to new heights with pure energy and excitement from the very first beat. 

Paired with it, Sekucci delivers a stripped-down, darker, and psychedelic remix of Yienger’s single that creeps up on you until you realize you are deep inside a complex and self-propelling groove. With eerie beauty matching breathless sweat, this release has left us wanting to hear more from both of these exciting talents.

Hailing from Latin America, Panko (Argentina) & SUB-P (Brazil) bring their musical multiverse to Major Records with their House of the Future EP. Bridging the gap between the past and the future while traversing multiple genres, they build a world that is undeniable in its dancefloor prowess with messages of gender freedom and queer liberation. 

Opening with an audio quote from Brazilian Elke Maravilha that loosely translates to “I detest separating people by gender. They are just people, you know?”, “House of the Future” is a manifesto for a world unshackled by outdated constructs. “Darling, I Want My Gay Rights Now” builds on the iconic voice of Marsha P. Johnson into an acid-drenched techno workout that demands respect at every turn. 

“Down the Patriarchy” calls all femmes to the front with audio from Judith Butler spliced amongst some very familiar ballroom themes, catch it! “Worst Porn Lines Ever” is a coming-of-age tale from the days of dial-up internet. Heavy baselines pump while a mix of modern and vintage porn samples propel the song to its inevitable climax.

The latest from London via NYC, “Post Hypnotic Signal” is a collaboration years in the making. “Joy and I are forever connected in rhythm after our time playing drums (Joy) and bass (Hannah) in our beloved former new wave band Black Gold Buffalo,” Hannah writes. “Having met through clubs some decades ago and spent many a time on the dancefloor together, it only seemed right to make some club bangers and here we are, Post Hypnotic Signal being one of the first of more to come!”

Hannah Holland and Joy Joseph both cut their teeth on the London scene, Joy as a drummer/composer and Hannah as a DJ, party promoter, and label head at the legendary Batty Bass, which is where the relationship with The Carry Nation began upon the signing of their first single “This Bitch Is Alive” in 2012.

“After many shared remixes and collaborations on Batty Bass, we are beyond thrilled to be able to bring this incredible project to Major Records,” says Nita of The Carry Nation.

“Of the many collaborations, a standout was the Carry remix for Black Gold Buffalo’s “Start A Fire” which found its roots in Joy’s powerful drum line”. Will adds, “It’s been a real pleasure to keep breaking new ground with this musical relationship, feels like such a full-circle moment.”

Continuing with Spring releases, Canetis lands on Major Records with “Gas Money”, including a remix by Major alum Josh Steers. Mark Mannara is a house music producer and DJ born in Rome and grew up in Milan before making his way to New York.

Canetis’ single, “Gas Money”, is a stomp-heavy, energetic hustle with a lot of attitude that recalls a 90s-era bitch-track sound, incorporating the art of utilizing voicemail recordings in the production process. The sexiness of the percolating percussion enveloped with sharp and precise stabs is sure to gas you up.

Josh Steers’ remix unfolds the original, bringing the elements together in an ultra-modern, playful, and sinister fuel-up that hits with old-school surprises. This EP is bound to propel the perfect bounce to gas up the dance floor.
