As part of the Playaz family, Taxman regularly gets to drop his self-produced depth charges on our Room One soundsystem. And it’s not all that surprising that his music stacks so much impact when you consider how long he’s been tweaking and formulating his style for. His recent album, <em>Synthetic Vision</em>, managed to encapsulate his dancefloor approach whilst also presenting tracks that drew from unexpected musical sources showing the world how honed and toned his productions really are and ahead of the Playaz Xmas Special on the Sunday 28th December we wanted to share a piece of that ourselves, so we asked Taxman if he’d be up for sending us a special delivery. Lo, this is what popped up on Wetransfer the other day: the perfect prelude to our upcoming post-Christmas special…

Taxman - Stay At Home Festival

london Born Makka, was given his name at a very young age by all his friends at school, and his mates from football. Turning from a multi-winning athlete at a young age, to finding his love for Oldskool Hardcore, Jungle and Drum and Bass music, he began his Journey as a Dj, picking up his first set of decks at the age of 14. 

By 16, Makka was running his first event called Indication, with his pals, at The Iguana Bar in Reading, hosting local talent with a few special guests thrown in for good measure including Nicky Bkackmarket, Total Science, Hazard and Dillinja. As well as this, he hung around a bunch of Rig Slutz and played at several illegal raves back in the day, including a 4 hour set on the Oblivion Soundsytem. Makka then became a regular Dj on Pirate Radio around the country including 87.5 and Life Fm. 

From this he found himself playing regularly at several local clubs during the 90's including The Matrix, After Dark Club, Club Bay, RG's, Utopia and The Mill to name a few. All before his 21st Birthday.

Rest in Peace those infamous clubs.

At 21 years old Makka began working for a major record distributor, Nu-Urban Music, where he would be employed by the infamous Bassment Phil. Makka would go on to spend a good part of his life liasing with Artists, Networking and making sure every Disc Jockey in the UK got their white labels and dubs sent out on time, from personal Dj accounts to 90% of shops who would stock vinyl.

Whilst at Nu-Urban, Makka touched base with the Local go to Drum and Bass event organisers and became a regular Dj playing out for the 36th Chamber crew, formed by DJ Vapour, where they would throw parties every week, hosting a huge bunch of Artists on the circuit. 

Because of this, Makka was lucky enough to warm up for Artists such as Taxman, Brockie, Hazard, Total Science, Randall (RIP bro), Nicky Blackmarket, Dillinja, Andy C, Sub Zero, Twisted Individual and more, getting a real insight into the world of Drum and Bass, forming a bond which could never be broken. 

This would ultimately fuel the passion even more, and Makka went on to winning several DJ comps, giving him the chance to play several gigs at two very infamous events. Shabba D's Sticky, and Eksmans Next Hype event, as well as some more radio slots and Festivals.

Several years passed and Makka had a family and some personal issues to figure out, which led to some sidetracking in life and personal goals to achieve..

"You can take me out of Drum and Bass, but you can't take the Drum and Bass out of the me"  

After a good needed break and a bunch of Qualifications under his belt, Makka finally steps back out into the world of Drum and Bass as a thriving Producer, bringing his unique style and sound with him.
