Nimbly walking the tightrope between sensuous house folds and more rugged, up-for-the-jugular techno on a deep, dubby tip, Ogazón treats us to a high-end vinyl workout flush with immersive, cinematic motion and proper low-slung club-oriented extrapolations. The result is a mix that swings the pendulum between sheer blazing functionality and an escapist mindset, sparking off the inextinguible will to go out and rave your night away from the daily hassle, and you can trust Ogazón for she certainly knows how to teleport dancers to a whole cozier, comely dimension in the twinkling of an eye. Luxembourg’s Ogazón (of Nathalie Ogazón Faber) followed her studies to the Netherlands and fell deep down the rabbit hole of Amsterdam nightlife, Trouw she recounts as transformative. Enough so that she followed that thread starting in the mid 2010s as neophyte DJ before upping sticks for Berlin a few years later. There, her passion for digging and upbeat outlook landed her in Ryan Elliot’s sights, a partnership that’s taken B2B form on more than a few occasions and led to further work with fellow blue chipper Marcel Dettmann (she signed to his agency in 2023). These days Ogazón’s sound is spreading to the pace of its rapid tempo, and her schedule’s all the more punishing for it. Dekmantel, Awakenings, DGTL, Berghain, Robert Johnson, the list gets longer. Refusing trivial categorisations, her work pivots between groovy house and austere techno, bringing together various influences (the ambient inclinations of Sofia Coppola she also cites) and keeping her vision broad. For Bassiani Podcast 241 she errs on the side of techno, delivering a profound two-hour mix that marches unrepentantly forward, zipping from ascetic track to track and building an atmosphere thick with subtle detail. This is deep, utilitarian techno for unsettled times and Ogazón leads the way.

Ahead of Amniote Editions’ 5 year anniversary night at Bassiani on the 6th of December (cancelled due to street protests) comes a very special mix from Munich’s finest, BASHKKA. Derived from the Turkish word for ‘different’ (she has roots there), the name reflects a no f*cks given approach to sound and culture that draws people toward her like moth to flame. From formative days in New York City where she started taking inspiration from its wealth of queer histories, she carved an insubordinate sound that’s crossed the Atlantic and set up shop in her native Germany, where her liberating tunes have found common cause with such venues as Blitz Club, Panorama Bar and Amsterdam’s Raum just a hop and a skip across the border. The aim is to reclaim spaces, assert the existence of marginalised groups (SWANA people like herself for one), amplify their narratives and create moments’ where ‘individual heartbeats merge into one motherbeat’. Further to those activist visions, her debut EP Maktub (2023) was a five-track banger and labour of love that synthesised Kurdish vocal samples with runaway beats. The reference to overlooked perspectives and elusive spark found at the intersection of culture and sound is the driving force, and something that’s felt in the gut when she plays. It’s a much needed energy in turbulent times, a reminder that you can save the world and have fun doing it. For Bassiani Podcast 242, BASHKKA brings her inimitable rhythms to the fore of the counter-cultural struggle: brazen and rave-ready, a two-hour trip to the future, slamming beats from a true icon.
