Translation revisits Theory’s ‘Babylon Dem’ from the Solstice EP (2010), through the eyes of its creator, The Untouchables, Double 0, and Mantra – each deliver fresh interpretations of the original, while maintaining its infectious rebel sound. Up first, Theory sets the foundation with his ‘Dem A Pree Remix’, an update for 2016 that re-explores the critical interplay between the chords and dark swirling FX of its predecessor. Next, The Untouchables brighten things up with a dub/reggae-inspired version, with a live feel to it. Veteran producer Double 0 flexes his musical versatility on the ‘Dubwise Remix’, a heavyweight rhythm for the dance with fluttering renegade sonics and a nasty low-end thump. Mantra opts for a more abstract deconstruction of the original on the ‘Charlatan Remix’, crafting a menacing and hypnotic tribal sound from the echo chamber, with sinister reverberations to close things out.

Gunman's blissed-out atmospherics pave the way for a heavy combination of chopped up breakbeats and a juked-out drumline. Equally influenced by early jungle and contemporary footwork, 808 percussion and congas punctuate the undulating bassline.

Squidgy, fluffy, soft and sweet — all words that describe the tasty marshmallow treats that front the latest SweetBox release, but a far cry from the two weapons held within.

Pressing the Big Red Button is Manchester junglist K Super, co-founder of the Certain Sounds party and resident for the Ruff Cutz and Pick & Mix Soundsystem crews alongside partner Atlas (who joins her on the flip).

Lead track ‘Flumps’ is pure hellfire hardcore. Full of sneering darkside stabs and propelled by an insatiable break, it was originally produced as a war dub, but after a little more tinkering is now a certified WMD.

B-side ‘Condemned’ offers heavyweight jungle that swaggers and stomps in equal measure, inspired by the likes of Digital and Spirit. Prime your gun fingers for this one.

Having found new purpose in 2020 with acclaimed releases from the likes of Constrict, Luke Sentric and TYPE, these two searing cuts from K Super lay the foundations for what’s set to be another standout year for SweetBox.
