To me, Gary Jules cover of Tears For Fears classic song, Mad World, is one of the coolest takes on a song ever. When Adam Lambert did a rendition of it on American Idol years back, I loved his additions to an already great cover. My cover here is something of a blend between the two...but not as good, obviously.

I've had this sitting on my computer for quite some time...not sure why I never uploaded it before now. Maybe because it's a song that's covered too often as it is. Maybe because the song itself is quite a few years old and not even off their current album anymore.

When it comes to my songwriting, I really only have two rules for myself; be vulnerable and tell a different story or reveal a different side of myself with each song. Of all the songs I’ve written, this is easily the one that I had the hardest time writing. Not difficult in coming together, mind you…difficult in that it reveals a part of me I didn’t want to admit existed: a part of me that sees family as a burden and wants to live selfishly. But the fact is, even the greatest family man has had dozens of those moments. In writing this follow up to Where The Heart Is, I explore that side of me from a specific incident around two years ago.

Where The Heart Is, Pt. II [Acoustic Demo]

The seed for this song started while I was watching my infant son sleep in his crib two years ago. The lyrics fell together while I was thinking about how peaceful he looked while he was asleep even though he had fought so hard to not have to go to bed. On the surface, the song may be about a sleeping child, but, at its heart, Sunset Requiem is about contentedness.
