Partnering with the Barcelona-based Mostra Festival to showcase some of the recorded sets during their second edition. Mostra is an independent small-format festival of avant-garde and experimental electronic music held in Barcelona on Easter weekend. Menou's live set was showcased on the first day of performances at Hangar centre for art research and production.

Co-curator of OUBAITORI, it's a pleasure to have again Iwamaki.

<Menou / iwamaki> plays Drone＆Ambient techno DJ or LIVE in Japan.
She started DJ in 2015, at dommune in 2017, and played DJ at Contact Tokyo,VENT Tokyo,sound space α,kagurane soup etc...she started Live set in 2019. Her name when she plays Live set is Menou. In April 2013, she performed a live set at the Mostra Festival in Barcelona, Spain. In May 2023, at the spanish secret festival Perpendicular.
Her DJ&live approach is a deep drone journey. She's conscious of creating a deep sound with an approach of layering sounds.

2015年より東京拠点に趣味にてDJ活動を開始。
何層かのdroneの和音にexperimentalやnoiseを重ねたアプローチ。
2016年ドローン大学卒業。
2017年にはdommune出演。その後も神楽音、VENT tokyo、soupなどでDJを行う。
2019年よりMenou名義にてLIVE活動を始動。
2023年バルセロナMostra festival、マドリードPerpendicular festivalにてliveを行う。
Estrato Auroraとの共同トラックがFrequencia Introspectivaよりリリース。
7月にはOrbitandoよりソロトラックリリースなど、トラック制作にも注力している。

Menou - Aparigraha [AFDS001] 

Affine Dark Science, known for its transmissions on the Helsinki-based radio platform IDA, transfers its cinematically melancholic spirit to a new chapter on its course: The birth of its label. Following the range of the projected sounds from the radio show and their favourites, Laura MRLS will stay on that path by hosting productions of like-minded individuals. The first page of this chapter is written by Menou's debut EP, "Aparigraha," a term used in Sanskrit to describe the stripping down of everything but the essentials, out on October 7th with a remix from Martina Bertoni.

Conceptually, the release, perceived as an invitation for enduring and profound contemplation, impels spiritual synapses. In this attempt to restore the lost focus, Menou expresses her idea with an intensely meditative tincture. With a sense of pure and transcendental displacement, she conveys obscure harmonies as the swirling frequencies of a turbulent haze envelop this cerebral enigma. Delving further into the concept of "Aparigraha," the previously soothing sonic caresses transform into a hauntingly electrifying percussive layer, breaking the chains of mental confinement.

To complement the highly flourishing textural work of Menou, Martina Bertoni reshapes the original composition closer to her classical finesse. While carefully inciting an inherently soulful contrast with the rest, employing an alluringly dramatic and melancholic grace, she ultimately develops an overwhelmingly comforting flow. That purifying, purposefully symbolic EP in its surrounding ambience awakens our innate and confused spiritual self, setting it back to its natural incline. Approached through conscious senses, it outlines a primaeval ceremonial gesture, an ode to the storming tidal waves stimulating meaningful emotions.

Menou / iwamaki is a Japan-based DJ and live performer specialising in Drone & Ambient Techno. Since starting her DJ career in 2015, she has performed at some of Japan's most iconic venues, including Contact Tokyo, VENT Tokyo, sound space α, Kagurane, and Soup. In 2017, she took the stage at the legendary Dommune, further establishing herself in the underground scene.

In 2019, Menou expanded her craft, introducing her live sets, which feature a distinct approach to sound layering. Her live performances have earned her international recognition, including appearances at Mostra Festival in Barcelona (April 2023).

Menou's DJ and live performances offer a deep, immersive journey through drone soundscapes, where subtle, evolving layers of sound create a rich, atmospheric experience. Her goal is to invite listeners into a meditative state, where they can appreciate the nuanced shifts and textures that define her sound.

A Drone Odyssey: MENOU (Live Set)

"This mix is ​​made up of various melodic drone sounds. 
They are tracks that I feel really beautiful. Listening to the drone feels like my heart and mind are being cleansed. What I was most conscious of in this mix was to mix the drones in various keys so that they would naturally connect and become a big story. I sprinkled in elements that episode the feeling of nature. And I used an unreleased track of mine in the middle of the mix.

I made a slightly longer journey than usual as a special mix for Inveins podcast.

On 3 Nov. 2024, the recording of this live performance was done at Food for Ears vol.7 (MIMINOIMI x Ambient Sleepers) in Ochiai Soup.
It was created with an awareness of a gradually changing storyline by layering natural sounds and rhythms consisting of field recordings and electronic sounds over a synthesizer drone.

2024/11/3 Ochiai Soupで開催されたFood for Ears vol.7(MIMINOIMI × Ambient Sleepers)でのlivesetのレコーディング。
