This months Making Waves Underground radio show on Deepvibes Radio was packed with lots of groove, funk, soul, house and disco as we welcomed Daniel Leseman and Hans Peeman from the awesome Fouk to join us for the Guest Mix.

They have been on our radar for some time now and finally had some space in their hectic schedule to supply us with an hours mix for the show and podcast.

With roots are firmly set in the Netherlands ever since they became partners in crime at high school in Nijmegen. Hans took his hand to creative drawing and later this artistic flare started to pay his bills as he became a graphic designer, Daniel’s obsession with music at a young age led him to study sound design and music production. Both the boys ear for music started at a young age and they would sneak up into the attic to play the vinyl they’d collected, annoying the parents as every good child does. Electronic circuits and noise making machines were their next project, until music production became a real possibility.

Daniel started producing dance music under the name 3 Colours and has been using his own name for a few years now, while continuing to teach sound design in Amsterdam, and Hans makes music as Junktion; but their childhood days brought them to collaborating in the studio and the Fouk project was born.

Their first vinyl release as Fouk, on their label Outplay was met with critical acclaim with brilliant reactions to ‘Stuff Your Dad Liked’ and ‘Cat Lady’. Following swiftly on, they produced a formidable remix for Lay-Far on the Swedish Local Talk Records Records. After Detroit Swindle signed them to their Heist Recordings imprint with their very successful Kill Frenzy EP and doing remixes for the likes of Kraak & Smaak and Razor-N-Tape, they gained a lot of attention. With multiple EP’s and remixes coming up, starting with the current Heavy On The Bacon EP on Dairmount’s Room With A View imprint, it’s going to be a very promising year for the guys.

@ethyene and his @moonrise-hill-material crew have come seemingly out of nowhere to become some of 2017’s most in-demand deep house & disco purveyors. Alongside Folamour, Kaffe Crème and St. Clair, the quartet have delivered tonnes of acclaimed music on their own and other labels <<du jour>>, as the French themselves might say. Ethyène’s love of hip-hop as well as 4/4 also shines through on this mix which takes in some of his downtempo excursions alongside dancefloor grooves, with plenty of unreleased action on the way. Sample-heavy, charming stuff with an almost pop-like sensibility. 

*How would you describe your sound?*

I mainly produce downtempo house music and hip-hop built around samples. As a producer who loves to sample, I guess my music is at the crossroads between all the genres I'm daily digging with an important focus on natural grooves & ‘90s black music.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* 

I've been listening to tons of hip-hop when I was younger thanks to my family living in Philadelphia which is close to NYC and is the city of Jazzy Jeff and The Roots. As a huge Nas fan, I think I discovered sampling through DJ Premier and immediately felt in love with it. I discovered then sample-based house music thanks to the French scene classics like Pépé Bradock, St Germain and started to have a huge interest in this genre until I got into the early Detroit house scene—Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Andrés—and decided this was the music I wanted to do.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

This mix features tracks from almost of my releases until today. I feel kind of proud to have been asked to record a 100% Ethyène mix and being able not to spend such an unpleasant hour listening to it, haha...

Tom's obvious knack for curating a dance floor smasher has been exposed, the secret is out - the da Vinci code has been cracked, Pandora's box is finally open. Hands up, we knew it but Tom swore us to secrecy. Now everyone bloody knows, with releases on 124 recordings, Dansu Discs and most recently on Fede Lng's Axe On Wax sub-label PNP. 

Keep a close eye on him with his Axe on wax release out in October and other forthcoming feel-good artistry on Krywald & Farrers vinyl only Persies label and Esuoh in 2019.

High Groovin Sessions with Damian Rausch

Etur Usheo is producer and DJ hailing from south Germany. His musical interest ranges from soul, funk, hip hop, house and beyond. Techno first lead him into electronic music but soon after he moved into the warmer realms of dance music, discovering house and disco. He started to produce own music and his natural talent caught the attention of A&Rs in 2018 when he signed his first record. After a couple of digital releases, the strength of his productions lead to his first vinyl release before the end of 2018. The high quality of his productions has since led to several more releases and EPs on a number of underground house labels including Esouh, Sound Society, Rough Recordings, Get Physical Music, Step Back Trax, Berlin Bass Collective, Moment Cinetique and Feedasoul to name a few.
