Our next instalment in the podcast series comes courtesy of a talented young artist from the fast rising Australian underground scene. Having regularly been seen DJing alongside big hitters like https://soundcloud.com/shedbug, https://soundcloud.com/rudolf-c and https://soundcloud.com/mallgrab this year saw his first track released on vinyl via the infamous https://soundcloud.com/salt-mines crew.

Here, Hymns takes us on a journey deep into the depths of dusty Melbourne basement clubs, ranging from spaced out ambient acid right through to crunchy lofi techno. This one is fully loaded with 100% certified heaters from start to finish and they are all original productions by the man himself!!! We've had this bad boy on repeat for the past week here at MWU, so it comes highly recommended that you waste no time in getting yourselves involved.....

This week's pick for our LT Podcast once again comes from far overseas via the outstanding Australian DJ and producer Hymns. Having released on Salt Mines, LKR Records, Momentary Records and Play !t Loud, and also working as one of the co-heads of the Melbourne parties 'Cool Room', Hymns has left us speechless over the last year with his mind-bending output plus his blistering DJ set at the Lobster birthday bash. 

We're super happy to host an hour long mix of serious electro bangers. Get your Monday ears ready for an energetic dose of hi-energy squeeze!

In Hymns' words: Recorded at night, in a clubby mood, in my bedroom, without a plan and with headphones on to be nice to my housemates, this mix started by jamming together tracks from my 'electro i just bought' playlist, and ended as an ode to some major production influences - (mostly the criminally underrated 'Detroit In Effect'). Now, I use this mix to get me in the mood before a big day in the studio.

"Brighton born and Manchester based DJ/producer Joe Roberts (aka Strebor) creates melodic techno with undertones of rave inspired breaks. Born in Brighton in 1995, he grew up with a keen interest in dance music, his earliest memory of his musical journey was being 9 years old taping his favourite songs from the radio on blank cassettes. Eight years later at the age of 17 he got his first pair of turntables, self teaching himself to DJ with production coming not too long after.

He eventually made his club debut in March 2014 in response to coming first in a DJ competition. Since then he has moved to Manchester in 2015 for university to study Music Production, which resulted in various gigs across the city and also the very place he co-founded Techno and Electro collective ‘Kuta’ where he is currently a resident DJ.

With UK night-life being currently out of bounds, lockdown has resulted in the Manchester based artist to resort to playing various live streams and also hitting the studio harder than ever before which has consequently led to his debut EP entitled ‘Regulate’ being released on Satta Records. His influences consist of the likes of Bicep, Underworld, Pangaea and Joy Orbison."

“Search & Find” - by Lisbon based Producer/ DJ and co-founder of online radio station Rádio Quântica - uses percussion to create a hypnotic track, with a bass line doubling as a mantra like drone, and the inclusion of cut-up vocals that Violet's mentions are her "ode to the validity of hacking our bodies and essentially being cyborgs." 

In conjunction with legendary Berlin-based !K7, SOS VOLUME 1 is a 14-track eclectic compilation showcasing dance music from some of the best producers working at the moment including rRoxymore, Violet, Lara Sarkissian, Umfang, LCY & Minimal Violence - lovingly curated to uplift and celebrate the global electronic community in a time of deep uncertainty in the music industry.

A limited run of vinyl will also be made available. Proceeds from the compilation will be donated to three womxn focused charities:

Transgender Law Centre, Downtown Women’s Shelter and Women’s Refugee Commission
