Iñigo Vontier, Roman & Castro - Ciudad Maldita


Something really great is happening South of the US Border and some of that magic is presented in this release by Roam Recordings alumi Iñigo Vontier as he partners with Roman & Castro to present the Ciudad Maldita EP. Mexico meets Chile in this excellent collaboration to bring three sophisticated floor bangers together into one EP. Sau Sau starts the release out with a wicked groove, vocal stabs, and elegant percussion. Smog moves a bit further into techno territory with its driving bass stabs underpinning a dizzying spattering of electronics woven to accentuate the hypnotic rhythm. Callejón offers a bit more left feild vibes with its electro beat under synth infused soundscapes.

Rounding out the EP is an excellent dark and pretty remix from the master Timothy J Fairplay who brings old school vibes with a lofi acid motif. 

The Ciudad Maldita EP fits the Roam Recordings moto quite nicely with these four accomplished artists pushing things into left field while keeping true to discerning dance floor.

James Welsh continues his run of exemplary club singles on Phantasy with another powerful and uncompromising two-track release, Sitting/Rubber Dog. The record follows D974, which earned support from DJs including Laurent Garnier, Charlotte de Witte and Luke Slater.

Sitting enforces precision rhythm with a rolling, dystopian bass line alongside a hypnotic and memorable vocal sample. As the tension increases, the track’s clinical feel is unexpectedly flipped on its own head, blossoming into an intoxicating and emotive synth melody.

Meanwhile, Rubber Dog stays true to its absurdist title, as Welsh dials his analogue assistance to a head-spinning maximum, pulping out an unwieldy jam that blends industrial and electro influences to riveting and darkly psychedelic effect.

LASMO is a Polish duo composed of Jaroslaw Smolny, well-known to everyone from previous house music projects performed together with Catz'n Dogz or SLG and his friend Tomasz Lachowski, currently taking bold steps in the world of techno music.
They made their first moves on the native music scene in 2017. In April, they conducted and played on the TECHNO Conference in Lodz and continued on the second edition of Lodz Electronic Music Festival DOMOFFON, performing alongside Jonas Kopp, Anthony Rother, Dopplereffekt and others.
Their joint enthusiasm and energy pushed them towards taking action in the studio, resluting in a dozen of fresh and strongly energetic techno tunes. They do not intend to let the grass grow under their feet and continue their work on a new music material. The result of their cooperation was a brand new label called Interval Records.

Jon Hester grew up in the Midwest US, living in Chicago and Minneapolis while taking musical cues from Detroit. 
Initially he was a dancer, and later transitioned to the decks with a refined understanding of what it takes to move a club. 
He progressed to hosting his own events, holding residencies, and working at a record shop, and now brings his physical rhythms and adventurous drums to his productions, with output on respected labels such as Transmat, Deeply Rooted, Dystopian, Klockworks, and LET Recordings, not to mention multiple appearances on Rekids.

Continuing to show fine form on his debut album, Hester now serves up eight of his signature house and techno fusions with plenty of his trademark directness across four sides of vinyl.

 "’Converge’ encompasses my vision of techno and house with warmth, groove, and soul, and is steeped in my experiences in the Midwest US and around the world. “Search & Find” - by Lisbon based Producer/ DJ and co-founder of online radio station Rádio Quântica - uses percussion to create a hypnotic track, with a bass line doubling as a mantra like drone, and the inclusion of cut-up vocals that Violet's mentions are her "ode to the validity of hacking our bodies and essentially being cyborgs." 

In conjunction with legendary Berlin-based !K7, SOS VOLUME 1 is a 14-track eclectic compilation showcasing dance music from some of the best producers working at the moment including rRoxymore, Violet, Lara Sarkissian, Umfang, LCY & Minimal Violence - lovingly curated to uplift and celebrate the global electronic community in a time of deep uncertainty in the music industry.

A limited run of vinyl will also be made available. Proceeds from the compilation will be donated to three womxn focused charities:

Transgender Law Centre, Downtown Women’s Shelter and Women’s Refugee Commission
