Makoto, a man who’s been instrumental in Japan’s drum & bass movement since the birth of the genre, now signed exclusively to Hospital Records presenting his fifth solo album ‘Salvation’. A perfect fit bringing that trademark sound across 14 tracks of authentic soul and rolling jazz inspirited drum & bass.

‘I Don’t Wanna Wake Up’ featuring the outstanding vocals of Karina Ramage is the perfect summertime roller. Delightfully hypnotic, this will be a staple selection for any DJ worth their salt over the coming months, catching its premiere on Huw Stephens’ BBC Radio 1 slot. Makoto also empowers Karina’s topline prowess on the hauntingly beautiful ‘Winds Of Change’.

Following suit, the vocally driven ‘Salvation’ ft DRS balances an elegant ambiance with grittier elements. Switching to ‘Primitive Galaxy’ which focuses more on high-energy dancefloor impact but still with his distinctive bassline groove and melodic stabs. A jazzy riff takes the lead in ‘Fancy Free’ with celestial vocals and staccato drums, invoking a euphoric trance that all liquid tracks strive for.

Already having an enriched history across Good Looking and his own imprint Human Elements, Makoto is a leader in the art of funk, soul and jazz entrenched drum & bass. Following his recent European tour Makoto will make a welcomed return to our shores this summer at Mysteryland, Lockdown Festival and Hospitality In The Park.

Makoto presents his first solo single in some time which goes by the name of ‘Into The Vibe’ which is exactly where we are going with this.
One for the original Movement crew circa 2003 and certainly reminiscent of Sun & Bass vibes, this melodic roller brings nothing but hands in the air feelings and wishes of blazing hot extended hours. Keep this one under wraps if you wish, however, by the time you do decide to drop it in the summer of 2023, every other DJ would have pulled it up countless times..
If you ever needed to hear a single tune from Makoto to understand what he’s about, this one would probably sum it up perfectly. Keep an eye on his Human Elements label, much more to come and if you liked this one, you’re in for a treat this year!

It’s true that every tune from this talented producer tells a story, the question is... what memories are you going to make when you hear this?

Twenty years have passed since the release of the legendary ‘Golden Girl’ by the late, great MC Conrad and Makoto. One of the most iconic tracks in Drum & Bass history, Conrad had long expressed a desire to rerecord this timeless classic – and this finally comes to fruition alongside a brand-new Makoto remix! ‘Golden Girl’ is Conrad at the peak of his powers, poetic and profound in his writing, whilst raw and evocative in his delivery. The fresh vocals were recorded in one take during a sunlit studio session in 2019, where he sounds even deeper than before, adding even more emotional weight to an already mesmeric performance.

Makoto’s reconstruction is subtle but suave, as the original hallmarks are boosted with a modern twist; you’ll still groove to those amen loops, bounce to the bass and fall in love all over again with those melodic keys and strings! This 2025 revising rekindles the bliss of its precursor, as it flickers with nostalgic joy whilst capturing the hearts of new audiences. Coupled with this is a brand-new Makoto remix, an instantly infectious continuation of the song’s heritage.
