Rise

Live set for Resonant Frequencies 19 on August 4, 2019 in Oakland (home recording).  Performed on a Nord Modular G2 and a Sensel Morph interface to an algorithmically controlled set of a few custom MaxMsp instruments that are build around a harmonically related stacks of fm operators.  Simple.

Surround

Inyokern is a dissonant ambient meditation on hidden stresses.  In part imagined as a sonic representation of the physical stresses that  contributed to the ridgecrest earthquake in the mojave desert, a reminder of the hidden instability under...everything.

Inyokern

A collaborative track produced with Corduroy Institute.  Bass, Guitar, synth and instrument effects on their end.  Modular synth rhythm on the mysteron and voltage multistage, resynthesized ambience, and mixing on my end.  It turned out more ambient than either of us seem to make on our own.

Frequency modulated DSP. These are experimental FM synth pieces, created using MaxMsp and a Nord Modular G2. Driven is based around harmonically stacked fm operators at frequency multiples of a sequenced fundamental. Inyokern is a dark ambient soundscape that reflects on the 2019 Ridgecrest earthquakes. Cover art was shot in the Mojave desert.

Demacinate

I've been periodically making these abstract/ambient pieces that are all built on the process of using the test oscillator plugin in mainstage/logic, and manipulating the raw sound using a stack of effect plugins, but in ways other than their intended uses.  It's sort of a software equivalent of plugging a raw oscillator into a chain of pedals.

Event Horizon (disquiet0435)

These are the sounds right outside the new home office on a rainy day, and the soundtrack to every zoom meeting that I'm in.  Birds, drizzle, light wind, and an occasional car in the distance.  Recorded about 8 inches above the ground where it comes up close to roof level (it's a hillside house) using an SM57.  Minimally eq'd to emphasize the birds and vehicles a bit.    The cover image is the recording location.

Eight Inches Above the Ground Next to the Roof (disquiet0436)

Apparition is an overhaul and reconstruction of audio that was recorded during the creation of Data Cult Audio 0195. It strips the material down to a minimal core and reconstructs it back up with a focus on timbre and mood. A sense of that set remains, but only in occasional fragments and distant echos.

Apparition V was originally presented as part of Resident SF in January 2021.
