What if the music for battling the dark lord in the doom eternal dlc had a big catchy hook, like, yaknow, this one (only thing they fear is you)? Well now there’s an answer because I, Geoffrey Day, have made my own original dark lord battle theme and I think I prefer it over the real music from the game which makes sense because I made it. I’m also excited because, unlike the covers I’ve been doing, this time it’s completely doom, 100% raw uncut argent metal.

...and sometimes, I have nightmares.    

I had been thinking about saving this track for this year's "Spooky Week"--a themed set of Interbay track drops around Halloween that lean towards the darker side of Interbay.  However, it has been languishing on a shelf in The Vault deep in the depths of Phantom Laboratories West for over a year now (skipping LAST year's Spooky Week entirely) and, knowing full well that I will have plenty of dark and scary music to fill up countless Spooky Weeks to come...I thought it might be time for this track to see the light of day (or, at least, the ears of followers of this Interbay music project here on SoundCloud.)  

This is one of the tracks that I had thought I'd finished and were just waiting for me to make a video for it, back when I was only posting my tracks (with accompanying music videos) on Facebook.  When I stopped doing that and started posting tracks exclusively on SoundCloud, it ran afoul of a rule I set for myself--that all SoundCloud Exclusive Interbay tracks MUST have some sort of "vocal element"--in otherwords, they can't be instrumentals.  

...and this track WAS an instrumental, so it went from being "finished" to NOT being finished by that new standard.  However, I couldn't crack what sort of vocal element I could add to this odd mess of an instrumental track...which, on one hand, was somewhat like the Music for the Masses-era Depeche Mode...and on the other hand, was the symphonic (some might say "industrial"--but not in the common use of that genre name) weirdness of JG Thirlwell's various Foetus incarnations.  

In the end, I decided not to carry on down EITHER of those paths...and I've somehow made this a bit of a sister piece to the classic Interbay track "Beneath These Trees" (which, for the longest time, was the most listened to Interbay track of all time...and is still, to this day, in the Top 20.)  

Ironically, for how difficult I found it for such a long time to craft a narrative vocal element for this track--I'd named the instrumental project "Sometimes I Dream of the Symphony"--so, the general idea was certainly baked right in from the start.  

This isn't as harsh of a track as its influences (or the thumbnail image, for that matter) and I think you can handle it.
