Mariame Kaba is one of the city's great mentors and community builders–she's the founder and director of Project NIA and co-founder of We Charge Genocide, and has worked to combat violence against women and girls for decades. Just a few weeks before she moves from Chicago, she joins AirGo for a conversation.

Spring Up with us for the very first episode of #ConsentAnd, a podcast series cultivating space to vision what a culture of consent and liberty looks and feels like for all of us as we fight for collective freedom and liberation.  

Over the course of our #CultivateConsent campaign, we’ll explore consent as it relates to our bodies, minds, souls, and spirits. On each episode, we’ll bring together social justice leaders from movement spaces across the country to talk about how consent relates to other social, racial, and economic justice issues. 

On this episode, we speak with Stas Schmiedt and Lea Roth, the founders of Spring Up who started the organization a little over 6 years ago after years of organizing on their college campus. We start our conversation with an analysis of how power dynamics in society and on the interpersonal impact our ability to communicate and negotiate consent. We’ll also share some of the history and founding story of Spring Up and talk more about the tools and resources available in our recently released Cultivate Consent zine.
