It’s a 2025 take on that 2005 Hyperdub sound when future garage was in its rawest infancy. Driven by an off-kilter beat, underpinned by deep rolling basslines and rich in electronic textures, it’s clearly got London’s rave DNA encoded in it. Add to that a warped sample of an obscure 1997 vinyl record and Journey is a real time-travelling gem of the UK electronic music scene. 

But this is a track that also takes you on an emotional journey. It starts off dark, moody and tense. Unsettling chords are punctuated by a sparse vocal that declares “she would never say” before launching back into an oddly comforting dystopian soundscape. 

And yet, by the 2.30 mark something has shifted and some hope has crept back into the composition. Sweeping synths and uplifting arpeggios then lead the listener into a bridge section that makes you feel like all the tension in your body is evaporating. And this compositional arc, from tension to resolution, turns listening to ‘Journey’ into a simply therapeutic experience.
