With his forthcoming album Dofflin Beach, Danish producer icfam invites listeners into the shimmering, slippery world of dofflin — a bright, futuristic, and mostly forgotten subgenre of electronic music from mid 2010s.

Conceived as the soundtrack to a behind-the-scenes video from an imaginary world tour, Dofflin Beach plays like a surreal travel diary: a jet-lagged superstar wandering from a beach party where “everyone was stang-bacardi,” to a sunrise jam session with bongos, synths, and even synth-bongos. Amongst the dancing people, a digital video camera gets tossed around, capturing the energy in fragments.

“Trying to capture the essence of dofflin is a slippery affair,” icfam admits. Yet on Dofflin Beach he leans into those early inspirations and influences, reimagining them in his own way about a decade later. It’s music that evokes both longing and belonging.

From beach to beach, to the imaginary private jet studio over the open sea, this album is a postcard from a place where dofflins do sing and play.
