During the period of my life when I was struggling with addiction and self-harm, there were many times where I thought to myself: “I can’t be drinking like this. I can’t end up in the ICU again.” And the ICU is exactly where I’d end up again in a couple of months. Or I’d think to myself: “I’m going to stop self-harming. I’m done.” And I’d fall right back into it within a couple of weeks. 

That’s why the song is so repetitive. It’s a reflection of a state of mind where I’m really struggling to break out of circular patterns of self destruction.

Mallika Vie (pronounced like the letter V) is a Soul and R&B singer and producer who draws inspiration from Snoh Aalegra, Steve Lacy, and SiR. She graduated from Harvard with a love for quantitative sociology, and is ALMOST done with her music production degree from Berklee College of Music.

In 2021, Vie released “let it go”, which featured her signature high, buttery vocals. “Let it go” is a claim that personal success is actually about the cultivation of empathy instead of clout.

Mallika’s latest release, “selfish”, is a sultry celebration of intimacy, grounded in the female gaze. “Selfish” is a statement that it’s ok for women to take up time and space without feeling rushed or de-prioritized, both within the context of physical intimacy, and far beyond it. “Selfish” has been featured on Spotify’s “Fresh Finds” and “BUTTER” editorial playlists.

Vie’s upcoming release, “Baby Baby Love Me Back” is a departure from Vie’s sweet, airy, high vocals - and a honest, sobering foray into the heaviness of addiction.
