The Sultan

It's no secret we're big fans of Exit Records here at Data Transmission. Set up by dBridge in 2003, the imprint has - as its motto suggests - stayed true to the craft, releasing some of the most forward-thinking drum & bass of the past decade. That's why when we heard label regular Skeptical would be returning with a 4-tracker this month, we simply had to get in on the action.

In true Skeptical fashion, our Debut Transmission 'Between The Lines' balances the genre's natural exuberance with a penchant for the murkier side of life. Tribalistic drum-work echoes his recent Imperial EP for Exit, with the addition of strings, snarling bass stabs and Collette Warren's husky vocals adding a more 'concrete jungle' vibe, whilst still keeping the track firmly within the heart of darkness. Warren has become something of a staple voice with drum & bass in recent years - working with the likes of Marky, Klute and FD - and it's clear to see why, as she turns out yet another stirring performance.
