The progression of your memory

This song is meant to be a journey... and each time you listen, you may find yourself in a different adventure.  While initially writing this song, I wanted to capture a sound that illustrates the cantankerous mental journey we all take from time to time when we begin to spiral down into our own thoughts.  Or, as some would like to call it, "into the rabbit hole."  Sometimes that discombobulated path can lead us to strange, uncomfortable, and for many, very irrational places.  In those moments, you can literally feel life "hot on your heels," and an overwhelming majority of the time, we build walls within and around ourselves in order to neglect our own self-awareness, which, in turn, shields us from facing our own personal convictions.  But, like the ridiculously cliché saying, "No pressure, no diamonds," I feel the same applies to this journey.  The reality is, every single person struggles with life, period.  It is hard!  You cannot escape it, no matter what.  And I'm beginning to think that is literally the point.  We have to struggle, we have to face reality, but more important, we have to face ourselves for who we really are if we want to break free from the dark and troubling places that loom not only in our mind, but also in this incredibly negative world we live in today.  We cannot escape the imperfections of this world, and we simply have minimal control over this life, no matter how hard we try to formulate and construct rhyme and reason to convince ourselves that we do.  That seems so heavy.  Truth is not always pleasant.  But we do have the choice to use our experiences, struggles, and intelligence to change how we treat and perceive this world.  We have to understand that the minimal control we have in this life is simply how we treat other people.  When we really take the time to realize that every single person around us is knee deep or worse in their own personal journey "into the rabbit hole," we have a greater chance of developing genuine empathy and kindness towards fellow mankind, and equally important, our own selves.  Do we not understand that the violent struggles raging inside us individually every single day are just as uniquely intense, tragic, and painful within every single person we cross paths with?  Do we truly treat people the way we so aggressively demand to be treated ourselves?  Do not deny the intensity of life, but do not let it consume you either.  In the surrender of control, that is when you feel most alive.
