Nervous Horizon is delighted to welcome New York-based producer and DJ Ma Sha to the roster with a high-voltage three-track EP titled "Elastik".

For her Nervous Horizon debut, the Kindergarten' honcho immerses herself in a solitary sonic journey drawing inspiration from the concept of self-isolation-induced time distortion and the interplay of the diverse rhythms intertwining in her environment. From the quick motion of people outside her Ridgewood apartment juxtaposed with the slow, fluid movements of her indoor plants, to the intense traffic on Myrtle Ave contrasting the flowing red light shadows on her studio walls, Ma Sha blends warped reality and sound exploration forming the perfect collage.

Shaping her distinct solo sound with a focus on finding a balance between her critical thinking and intuition, each track resonates with different emotional states. By aligning heavily time-stretched elements with chopping and granulation techniques, Ma Sha skillfully incorporates the altered time concept within the tracks' structure. If "KV December" mirrors unpredictable emotional fluctuations, in both "Myrtle Warp" and "Psyspi" vocal textures' shifts and layered synths co-exist with bold and sharp percussion. Accompanied by a fresh take by Ehua on one of the originals, the EP unravels around a warped perception of time while consistently maintaining the playful atmosphere that defines Ma Sha's personality and the music that truly inspires her.

Elpac lurches into the NHS fold with his debut EP, taking form as a selection of four mounds of spasmic drum & bass and dancehall clay formations. The Pressure Dome affiliated artist captures the essence of his locality – Bristol – through the multiplicity of auditory colours and shapes that define the city’s approach to syncopated, warped electronica eclectica.

The release is fundamentally pacey and pushing, moving in an oddball step along threads of influence with regular moments of transient, oblique leakages. A rich undertone of UK-style sub frequency pervades the collection; the EP is laden with flowing, swelling, pulsing bass that is paired with an unconventional mash of synthesis and percussion.

Tsuyoshi channels the kaleidoscopic, unbearable brightness of the mind and it’s potential throughout.

Having featured on labels such as Livity Sound & ZamZam Sounds, Dayzero makes a confident leap away from his dubstep affiliations to explore a more agitated, aerobically-respirated approach to dance music, whilst still carrying key components of his signature repertoire with him into the fray. FM notes, LFOs and constantly twisting harmonics pair with an expanse of BPMs and arrangements.

"Apparatus“ is Rizla Ops’ debut EP on Voitax, a deeply personal creation born swiftly amidst the heartbreak of losing a close friend, Ollie Mazgaj. Crafted during a period of introspection, the EP became an anchor, the only thing that felt right in a world detached from the club and daily routine. 

Sonically diverse, "Apparatus“ explores techno, drill, amapiano, grime, and garage, maintaining a common thread of dissonance, functionality, and groove. The title track, „Apparatus, stands out as an outlier in Rizla Ops’ discography, featuring big melodic moments that capture the raw emotions of the artist at that particular time. Despite his usual preference for conveying ideas through rhythm and sound design, this EP marks a turning point, hinting at future experiments with melody and harmony.

« Founded almost four years ago, Le Motel’s Maloca Records has excelled in world-building as it tirelessly brings together some of the best and most innovative artists from different pockets of the club community around the world. This is showcased most notably through the compilation series which returns for its second volume on the 8th December as it combines both established and breakthrough artists.

Across 17 tracks, Maloca, Vol. 2 features both label family and exciting debuts with the likes of Farsight, Griffit Vigo, and DJ JM returning to the imprint. The artwork is by Brussels-based painter Anastasia Bay who’s work presents a renewed vision of the human figure. Oscillating between abstraction and figuration, Anastasia Bay’s work is all about contrast and balance. The choice of a precise fragment of reality in her works dissolves any narration. »
