To celebrate what they consider to be their strongest year to date, Lifestyle deliver with their first ever Annual release to see off the remarkable year they've had. Lifestyle Annual 2017 features a compilation of the best tracks from the last 12 months, alongside 8 brand new pieces from a range of fresh to existing artists to really top it off.

''After attending this years Boomtown, and meeting up with Volatile Cycle and Barbarix backstage at the Scrap Yard, we got chatting about drum and bass and life and then put in place plans for these lads to get involved with the label. To kick their tenture off, we received an absolute belter from the production quartet that is Volatile Cycle, Barbarix and Blockdodger. It's safe to say 'Manifest' kills it from the outfit that put together the official Boomtown anthem. We're incredibly stoked to have this lot on-board, watch out for more from them soon. 

Next up our German mates Instinkt are back for more on Lifestyle, with a track you'd expect only of this powerhouse duo. 'Conan' is big, bad and schmutzig. Following on and keeping it international, from New Zealand we have the Kiwi's Obeisant and Victim with their first release on the label, providing us with the dangerously large ‘6 Months’. Then to wrap up this sampler, there’s the slick liquid roller 'Born In November' from Slovak and German production trio Humanon, another debut on Lifestyle!

What a year we've had, and we couldn't look to end it on a better note with this annual. The name ‘Odyssey’ is apt from an LP which explores the full musical world which The Clamps has built around his art. And alongside Kosen Production, he’s about to unleash a collection of records that is a full spectrum look of what he’s achieved over his career, one which has spanned the neurofunk genre and helped provide some of its most unforgiving, yet refined sounds. Stretching across fifteen tracks, mainly falling within the techstep and neurofunk categories, there’s a host of featuring artists which help to platform the network he’s built through his music, from Nuklear MC, Impak, Merikan, Mizo to Nickbee. Due to drop in September, Kosen Productions - one of the leading independent imprints pushing up through its competition - is set to release its first teaser. It comes in the form of ‘Mankind / Soul of the Abyss’. ‘Mankind’ is a sonic rendition of humanity’s dark side, setting the scene of the world going mad, whilst ‘Soul of the Abyss’ focuses more on the depression, juxtaposing the track’s more melancholy parts with its more aggressive elements.

‘Mankind’ creates a landscape which is snapping and unforgiving, one which slowly drags you in like quicksand. The Clamps isn’t afraid to search for new and exciting avenues for his music, which is shown throughout ‘Mankind’. Its foreboding intro sets the scene and bit by bit you’re gradually pulled into the chaos. ‘Soul of the Abyss’ is more deeply menacing; a brooding concoction of throbbing drum peddles, crackling LFOs and peaked stabs of bass. Whilst still pushing the same underground feel as its forerunner, The Clamps doesn’t mince his intentions, cutting forward with the precision and snapping jaws which are still part of the track’s more understated composition. Yet it still causes as much of an impact and that’s why this package provides an intriguing opener of what The Clamps is about to unleash. He has a talent at his disposal which has been proven time and time again, meaning that the anticipation around the album will only begin to rise. Its world is chaotic as The Clamps has ever been.

The valley was a lush place, with flora and fauna of all types contained between its mountainous peaks. This way it had been for ages untold, and those who lived there wanted for not in their idyllic existence. Untouched they were by the world, hidden away in a pocket of paradise unknown to all others. Indeed, theirs was a blessed existence, but such gifts were a treasure that could not go unnoticed by all. On that fateful day, a shadow had passed the sun, and it was in the duration of this mid-day’s night that from high upon the mountain a thunderous roar did erupt. On a cold frigid wind came a new beast to the valley, with scales that glittered white as fresh fallen snow. Reptilian as it seemed, upon vermillion wings did it soar, and from its breath came the fury of deep winter’s hoar. It withered the forests that those who lived there called home, and those caught in its wake were frozen to the bone. Not even stone could stand against the great being’s wrath, and reduced to foundations were all buildings in its path. From within these ruins it plundered an invaluable hoard, taking the treasure of the valley’s great lord. With one final roar the beast then took to the skies, returning to the mountain from whence it came on high. Down below lay the valley, its inhabitants frozen firm, in fear under the shadow of that great ICY WYRM.

MIZO returns to EATBRAIN to debut his latest EP, which follows in the destructive wake of his Dust Devil EP on the label as well as further recent releases on labels including Neuropunk Records & C4C Recordings. Filled to the brim with the producer’s characteristic ferocious tones, the EP features a set of four tracks surging with serpentine basslines and deviously distorted sonics as MIZO leads the latest onslaught of the EATBRAIN horde from atop the eponymous ICY WYRM.
