In the closing months of 2012 BBE label artist Chris Read was enlisted by classic Los Angeles imprint Delicious Vinyl to produce a mixtape for Wax Poetics magazine celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the release of The Pharcyde's seminal debut LP 'Bizarre Ride'. The resulting mix was a runaway success clocking tens of thousands of plays online and kickstarted a relationship with the label that would go on to see Chris remix two of the group's best loved tracks, 'Runnin' and 'Passin Me By'.

Those tracks are now available for the first time on this limited edition BBE x Delicious Vinyl double vinyl 7inch release. Treating the familiar original with respect, Chris has called upon the vocal talents of long time collaborators Lizzy Parks (Tru Thoughts) and guitarist Giles Barratt (Breakin Bread) to rework passages from 'Runnin' to create a 2014 update on the themes of the much loved Jay Dee produced classic. 'Passin Me By' meanwhile gets a '90s throwback rework utilising sample material from the original to great effect to create a track which bears all the hallmarks of the golden era.
Mastered and cut by Walter Coelho who cut Jay Dee's 'Welcome to Detroit' back in 2001, the circle is complete!

'So what happens when a sassy successful record company owner decides to step out from behind her business desk and slide behind a mixing desk instead ? "Liberation" that's what, cue Helefonix. When I first discovered Folkstock records Helen Meissner was releasing an instrumental dance track , I had to do a double take, had I read right? I was used to receiving emails from Helen as over the years I've had the pleasure of reviewing some of the talented Folk, singer/songwriters she has on her label , so I have to say this was totally unexpected and a bit of a shock to say the least, even more so because at the start of Covid Lockdown she had no production skills.....

'To be honest, it wasn't boding well on paper, this could go two ways? 
Turns out I absolutely bloody love it and "Liberation" is an amazing debut., It's so good I'd happily add it to a Spotify playlist and download it in a heartbeat, and as someone known for being a stickler when it comes to giving out reviews that's no mean feat. 
'Very cool indeed, it's a catchy interesting track that like its creator has many layers, and make's you want to hit play again the moment it's finished, and having been privy to hearing more material from MidLifeMix, I can say it's not just dance music or electronic music, it's instrumental class and i'm very much looking forward to being a spectator of her impending success, one that she thoroughly deserves . Having spent years supporting other artists in their bid for a music career, She couldn't have chosen a more apt title for her own debut single, and the inspiring, talented MidLifeMix will have us all kicking off our shoes  crying freedom  and dancing...if you're ready, It's time to get Liberated? Mainly influenced by Old skool American 80's rap/hiphop with every other genre mixed in. Underground artist, not to be mistaken with a womble. The only platforms you'll find me now are Soundcloud and Bandcamp, from choice I'm no longer with a distributor or on any other platforms, the way artists and bands are treated has become a real problem and while a lone warrior,  I can't change that, I can choose not to be a part of that problem.
