@mamasnake is at the heart of Copenhagen's blistering techno scene. She plays with a serious amount of speed and showcased that as far back as 2018 when she played for Boiler Room at our Amsterdam festival. But she is also a qualified surgeon, co-founder of Amniote Editions and curator who oversees the release of music, posters, videos and t-shirts. She prefers to keep a low profile and operate in darkened spaces at the dead of night, but with her at the controls, there is no finer place to be. 

Mama Snake's supple and sublime sound is a mix of sleek techno and uplifting trance. She plays with a tight and technical mixing style and can make you fall in love with tracks you didn't even know you liked. On this week's mix, she charges through kinetic beats and slithering synths that never let up, but never get stuck in a rut. There is always a breakdown to reset the mood, a dreamy lead to take your mind away or a vocal latch on to. They say that speed kills, but when it comes to Mama Snake, speed thrills.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be talking to different artists who are co-curating the 2024 edition of the festival. We dive into their creative process and explore their inspirations, all in honest conversations straight from the heart.

We’re very happy to share a new podcast episode, this time with Mama Snake and Martinou who open up about their upcoming and debut b2b set at our Aura next week. 

Though you might notice some contrast in their musical output, their connection to the hypnotic Nordic sound unites them, with both seeking those spine-tingling moments in music. They share personal stories about their close bond with the Draaimolen and Nous'klaer Audio teams, and how the festival's atmosphere will shape their performance. 

There were a few audio glitches, but the conversation was too heartfelt to cut.

The host of this podcast is Chanel Kadir, Draaimolen’s external PR officer who has been working with the team since 2023. Outside of that, she works across many different creative platforms within the music sphere including editorial-led platforms such as Untitled 909 and wav.world. She's also the co-curator of the F1-focused mix series G-FORCE and host of radio residencies across Netil Radio and Refuge Worldwide.

This podcast is edited and composed by Tilburg music producer Ramses3000, also known as multidisciplinary artist Yannick Verhoeven. Incorporating ambient, jazz, new age and psychedelic music, the classical and digital worlds meet in Yannick's sonic world. He has recently released his new album 'Thalamus' on Intercept Records, for which he spent three months in a monastery with the aim of composing music that helps the listener to relax and process the stimuli of everyday life.

Celebrating the sonic history of the label as part of the anniversary. Artists who have contributed to capsules throughout the five years of the project were invited to dig into the entire back catalogue of releases and create their own unique take. The result is a beautifully diverse 12-track compilation that reinvents tracks, spanning from the first capsule that launched the label to the joint fundraiser compilations with Ute Records to the recent collaboration with the Berlin-based collective Mala Junta.

Paris’ fast-rising talent, @mac-declos (also known under the Amniote moniker Lōhis Neta), remixes the iconic “Skin Confessions” track by Mehen—the one that broke the internet from Mama Snake’s infamous Dekmantel BR set from 2018. Mac Declos reinvents this Amniote classic into a groove-driven, modern take on hi-fi techno.

The Australian branch of the Amniote project is well represented on the compilation. Intellagama (aka @hasvat-informant) offers an emotional remake of Sisilisko’s “Behind The Sun.” Jörmungandr (aka @eastern-distributor) spins the proggy, Goa-trance-inspired “To Be Free” by Monophonik and Riva into a fast-paced, psychedelic free tekno track. Suzhen Bai (aka @cloudyku) shares her version of the title track from her long-time friend Intellagama’s “Proof of Assets” debut EP from 2022. Finally, @a-m-u-w-a delivers a half-time, atmospheric version of Jörmungandr’s “Skogsrå” track from the second Amniote x Ute fundraiser compilation.

Sisilisko (aka @celestial-trax), who provided the stunning ambient album from the very first capsule, reimagines the ambient track “Wave of Awe” by Snog (Coluber) (aka Nature Boy), and Nature Boy himself delivers a rough, breakneck take on Mac Declos’ hit “Voy Voy.”

@monophonikmusic & @riva999 are becoming known for their groovy take on proggy, Goa-infused house and techno, which they effectively bring into their remake of DINA’s “Willow.” @dinakhashan takes us on an emotional and melancholic, yet uplifting, journey with her remix of “Introspective” by Heliobolus.

Berlin’s Horny Toad (aka @djhighfuture) brings her signature textured breakno sound into the tribal banger “Hey Mami” by Mala Junta’s Alphaconda (aka Hyperaktivist). Finally, Copenhagen-bred, Berlin-based Mala Junta founder @dj-tool showcases his talent for 90’s trance-infused yet modern sound design on his Spacetime mix of Najash’s “Quantum Critical.”

As Amniote Editions proudly celebrates its 5th anniversary, the label is excited to unveil 'HoxV-2: @spekkiwebu x Heliobolus - Phylogenetic Analysis,' the debut LP from long-time friend and collaborator, Spekki Webu, also known as Heliobolus. This 11-track project, shaped by a full year of meticulous studio experimentation, represents a bold exploration of sound, merging experimental techno with cinematic elements. “This is a journey of intertwined storylines, akin to parallel universes that connect and diverge.” Spekki explains.

At the heart of Phylogenetic Analysis lies the narrative of Heliobolus, a story of continuous evolution across different lifetimes, where Spekki Webu finds himself trapped in a cycle of spiritual searching and physical transformation. Drawing inspiration from science fiction, the artist crafts a dual narrative between tracks that oscillates between the spiritual and the surreal. Spekki tells us: ”The track ‘White Room’ is inspired by an intense psychedelic experience where his perception was wiped out for the endurance of a lifecycle, while ‘Forest Hunter’ delves into a recurring nightmare of being pursued in the woods. Later in life, I revisited these woods in a psilocybin session.” This gives just a peek into the kafkaesque corridors of Spekkis’s mind, leaving lingering questions for the listener for the rest of the release.

This LP not only embodies Spekki's artistic evolution in between alter egos - but also reflects the essence of Amniote Editions' five-year journey of curating forward-thinking electronic music. With influences ranging from 90s Dutch Goa to tribal rhythms, Spekki infuses a groove and funkiness throughout the album, balancing dance floor energy with cinematic sound design. 'HoxV-2: Spekki Webu x Heliobolus - Phylogenetic Analysis' is a testament to both the artist’s and the label's commitment to pushing boundaries, making this release a landmark moment in their shared history.

Amniote Editions resurfaces with the HbA capsule, a dual release pairing the debut album from @hasvat-informant and his Intellagama moniker with a 21-track digital compilation, that coils through ambient, IDM, experimental, techno, trance and beyond. 

Hasvat Informant’s debut album, Pluripotent XII, is a 12-track journey that reads between the lines of psychedelic electronics and contemporary techno. From driving, precise grooves to slow, textured explorations, the album carries the organic resonance of Australian underground culture while threading sharp influences from Detroit and beyond into a singular, unmistakably distinctive sound. 

On this dual release, Naarm-based artist alternates between his Hasvat and Intellegama personas, moving between them like a figure navigating parallel realities. Each track balances mechanical precision with expansive, trance-infused textures, creating a liminal space where urban and natural influences converge.

More than a display of technical skill, this debut conveys a sense of place, heritage, and lineage. Dwelling in both conflict and harmony, Pluripotent XII invites listeners into an otherworldly, lysergic landscape — complex, evolving, and fully realized.

Amniote Editions acknowledges this EP was produced  on the land of the Woiwurrung & Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respects to their elders past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded.

Amniote Editions resurfaces with the HbA capsule, a dual release pairing the debut album from Hasvat Informant and his Intellagama moniker with a 21-track digital compilation, that coils through ambient, IDM, experimental, techno, trance and beyond. 

Refraction of Light Vol. II gathers 21 artists linked by place yet divergent in expression, charting a fluid passage of moods, drifting from first light to nightfall. 

The compilation’s framing draws from its title: like light refracting on the horizon of a long drive, it bends shifting sounds and perspectives into a shared vision shaped by distance, connection, and the landscapes in between.

In the same way, Amniote Editions’ capsules provide fertile ground for music to evolve — nurturing divergent practices, experimental forms, and cross-genre encounters. Refraction of Light Vol. II extends this lineage, binding artists through place and possibility, and echoing so-called Australia’s role as a cradle of creative life within its worldwide snakeweb.

Conceived on the land of the Gadigal peoples of the Eora Nation, the project acknowledges the traditional custodians of this country, paying respect to elders past and present, and recognising that sovereignty was never ceded.
