Picture books bring tremendous benefits to kids who are in the early stages of developing their reading skills. Illustrations shown alongside text offer invaluable tools to help kids build understanding, fluency, vocabulary and other foundational literacy skills. The imagery in a picture book brings the pages to life, serving as a visual roadmap for the story.


As kids begin to speak and build sentences, they learn to recognize sounds and patterns within spoken language. This is known as phonological awareness and serves as the foundation for learning to read. The rhythmic cadence of many picture books helps kids develop and practice phonological awareness. Kids may start by repeating passages of their favorite picture books, then go on to make up their own similar rhymes or stories.


By organizing the sequence of events in a story, kids can practice their ability to comprehend what they read. Mastering this skill starts with identifying beginning, middle, and end, and summarizing key events that take place (in order) throughout the story.


Visual aids and illustrations remind the reader what happened throughout the story and support their ability to confidently retell the key events. As kids hone their sequencing skills, let them look at the pictures to remind them what happened in the story. If they guess, and guess incorrectly, then use it as an opportunity to re-read the passage. This offers a chance to do an additional check for understanding.


When kids enjoy particular books or stories, they may ask to read the same book again and again. This is a good sign that this book sparks interest and intrigue for a young reader. Let kids choose the stories they love, read them often, and offer options to explore new books as well.

Dead Island

Upon their return to the resort, the survivors make contact with "The Voice": Colonel Ryder White, a Banoi Island Defense Force (BIDF) commander who is currently trapped in a high-security prison located on a remote island, only accessible through the jungle. He states that due to the characters' immunity he could create a cure/vaccine, and in-turn save his bitten wife. White directs the survivors into the jungles of Banoi having them find a smuggler named Mowen who can reach the prison.


Mowen finally agrees to take the survivors to the prison. After the survivors complete the preparations that he and Jin requested, they hurry back to the lab when White reports that somethings' gone wrong. They find the zombies the scientists were studying were accidentally released, with only Yerema still alive. Rescuing Yerema and retrieving what appears to be a prototype vaccine, the survivors proceed to the prison island.


The survivors initially help the surviving prisoners to arm themselves in exchange for reaching White, but when White finally contacts them again he urges them to abandon the prisoners and proceed to him. The prisoners' holdout eventually falls and Mowen dies helping Jin and Yerema escape. As the survivors are about to reach White, however, they are hit with a knockout gas inside their elevator. Awoken by a tech-savvy prisoner named Kevin, they learn that White stole the vaccine and intends to flee with his wife and call in a nuclear strike to purge the island.


Racing to the roof helipad, the survivors find themselves held by White at gunpoint. Jin, disgusted by White's plan, releases White's now-zombified wife from her restraints, and she bites White on the wrist. White kills his wife and shoots Jin dead, then injects himself with the vaccine, only for it to accelerate and amplify his own mutation. The survivors kill White, then finally escape Banoi with his helicopter as Kevin intones that things will never be the same.


Upon extraction from Moresby, White hears from Emily that she has been bitten by one of her zombified patients. Disregarding his wife's pleas to leave her, White has himself dropped off at the prison, intent on saving her before ordering a nuclear strike to purge the island. By the time he arrives Emily has almost turned. Kevin then contacts White over the intercom, offering to help him as well. When they meet, however, White identifies Kevin as Charon, a notorious terrorist-affiliated hacker. Apparently they made a prequel to the trilogy I've been watching? I assume it's about Sam and his origin story. I know THE HOBBIT is going to be good because a full baker's dozen of you were like "you don't have to, save yourself" when I mentioned I'd watch it for this series.

I have seen all the movies before... once... in theaters... and the lack of captions was a bad thing. Maybe I'll like it better once I can understand what people are saying! I am going to say AGAIN that all I wanted going into this movie was for the casting director to cast half+ of the dwarves, at random, with lady actresses. And the cowards did not do that.

I really like seeing the thriving dwarf community. It reminds me of the space station on Valerian. I like seeing fantasy cultures just doing their thing. I hate hate hate that they turned "greed" into "mental illness" and explicitly say that "where sickness thrives, bad things will follow."

I downloaded the latest firmware from the official website but I am unable to use it because I can't access the recovery mode. When I try to, the tablet reboots while loading this mode, without even showing a menu.

** OnePlus 3/3T and OnePlus 5/5T on stock firmware MUST be rooted in order for GCam to function properly. This is an issue One Plus would have to address via an update in order to be fixed. The fixes are posted at the bottom of this post**


It is explained in various posts that opening the Arnova is a pain.
There are 4 screws located above and below the speaker.
This means behind the black metal faceplate.
The only way to reach them is to lift the black metal which is held in place with glue.
To lift this metal I use a precision knife. However, it is nearly impossible to lift it and later on close it in such a way that you can not see it was opened.
In short: opening leaves traces. 
Once opened there is a 4 pin location on the PCB.

What I meant with status is not how it visually performs at the moment but the status of the firmware.
What is the error that the OS gives, how many bad blocks and what exactly is defective.
Only with this information we can decide what software is needed. 
Note that in some cases, like a bad block on the very first secord of the flash memory, the device can not be fixed.


Note that most of the Arnova's will die between their 2nd and 3rd year of life.
The earlier you switch to listenlive the longer it will keep on working.
Besides the Listenlive firmware, also the recovery mode can be installed (when they still work!) 
Which will help in fixing them.






Info for Arnova users (useful for other SkyTC device owners too)

Although there visually only appears to be one "Arnova Web Radio & TV" device, internally there are some differences leading to a number of different models.
On the bottom of the device is a model sticker. The model is KMP511 and the part number is PN 501602 on all of them!
Below the barcode is another identifier, the older models are KM104xxxxx while the newer models are KM111.
From the outside there are no further differences.

What they all have in common is that they have the same "bad" firmware. 
With bad, I do not mean the poor functionality but the fact that some pieces of the firmware are able to destroy the device.
The is done by marking parts of the internal memory as "bad". When this marking is done on "unused space" you wont notice it.
However, when this marking is done on a part of memory that contains needed/critical software the device starts to get problems
The older the device gets the higher the chances are that a critical memory block is marked as bad and the higher the risk of a crashed device.
This behaviour is not limited to just the Arnova's but in fact is present on all models that originate from this Asian manufacturer (SkyTC).
However, for the Arnova models this is more of a problem than for the others because it is very difficult to open the Arnova in such a way that it can also be closed without leaving marks.


When the Arnova has crashed, it starts with the Arnova logo, shortly shows a dark screen and then shows the arnova logo again and stays on the logo forever. 
Non-Arnova models either have the same behaviour showing a logo twice or have a logo with jumping icons and after jumping to the last icon (internet radio) the device hangs.
