SAMOAN COUNTRY SINGER TAULIA LAVE RELEASES “FOLSOM PRISON BLUES” IN TRIBUTE TO JOHNNY CASH, JANUARY 13, 2025

Marking the 57th anniversary of Cash’s historic Folsom Prison performance, country music newcomer Taulia Lave commemorates the iconic prison performance with a fresh yet faithful tribute.

Nashville, TN – January 13, 2025 – On January 13, 2025, Samoan Country Singer Taulia Lave will release his rendition of Johnny Cash’s legendary “Folsom Prison Blues,” exactly 57 years after Cash’s historic live performance at Folsom State Prison. 

For Taulia Laveʻ, a former college football player turned country musician, this recording marks a pivotal moment in his artistic journey.

“Johnny Cash’s music has always been about truth and storytelling,” said Taulia. “I wanted this recording to reflect the respect I have for his artistry. ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ is not just a song—it’s a piece of American history, and I hope my version reflects that.”

To record his version, Taulia gathered a group of Nashville’s most respected session musicians at the renowned Station West Studios, where producer Austin Stanley brought the project to life. The session featured Nashville greats like guitarist James Mitchell, pedal steel player Scotty Sanders, and keyboardist Mike Rojas. Studio owner Luke Wooten, inspired by the project, added his own expertise as the Mastering Engineer, underscoring the shared commitment to honoring Cash’s legacy.

Cash’s live recording of “Folsom Prison Blues” topped the country charts in 1968, reached No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100, and earned Cash a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male. Taulia Lave approaches the track with a profound respect for Cash’s vision, preserving the spirit of the original while adding his own voice to the classic.
