What a ride it's been! Another lap around the Sun complete, making it 16 wild years of Subfactory broadcasting on Bassdrive. Synchronistically, this mile stone show joined forces with the eternal love that is found all around and was broadcast LIVE on Valentines Day. Which is where the theme of 'Sweet Love' for this addition came about. All tracks, except the first, in this 2 hour Spim mix contain either the word 'Sweet' or 'Love' or both!

ORIGINAL Citation (Oct 2014): Rosetta’s Plasma Consortium (RPC) has uncovered a mysterious ‘song’ that Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko is singing into space. The comet seems to be emitting a ‘song’ in the form of oscillations in the magnetic field in the comet’s environment. It is being sung at 40-50 millihertz, far below human hearing, which typically picks up sound between 20 Hz and 20 kHz. To make the music audible to the human ear, the frequencies have been increased in this recording. Modern Technology - A song I wrote in my apartment in Ulm, West Germany in January 1985. The original song was written on a Fostex X-15 four track cassette recorder using a Korg DW-8000 Synth, and 1 minute of drums recorded from a Casio Keyboard borrowed from a neighbor kid (Thank you, Mehmet). Over the years, I tried various synthesizers, but nothing seemed to work until I invested in Ableton suite 8, and remade the tune again 25 years later, in March of 2010 in my bedroom using a laptop in Rochelle, Illinois, USA.



Modern Technology - 1985

A Pixitracker chiptune (sort of) that combines Roland TR-909 percussion samples, the Emu Modular's "Pong!" noise, some classic noises from the Commodore-64's MOS 6581 chip played as bass line and (*cough* my first real attempt at a *cough*) melody, and a violin played arco vibrato.  While messing around with this song I kept thinking of a group of people heatedly debating something or other, with lots of arms-going-up movements and gestures toward someone else with fingers held together like a bird's beak.  Coruscating waterfalls of primary colors make up the others in the debate and undulating sheets of kelly and forest green underpin the sides of the debate almost but not quite talking over one another.

I learned this song off of the Abbey Road album. I played all the guitars first, using the Marblehead Imperial guitar played through my Vox amplifier. I think I did the bass next. The organ was played on the Nord Electro 4D. The "white noise" sound was done on the Yamaha M06 and I did all the vocals using the Lewitt microphone. (I also recorded the guitar tracks using the Lewitt mic.) The drums were Session Drummer, Funk Kit. 

I listened to Abbey Road with my headphones one day, and then I started to hear myself covering this song.
