The song; ‘Jozi’ talks about a man who has just moved to the South African city; Johannesburg for work and better opportunities but upon arrival he meets a girl and falls in love with her despite her warning him that no-one really has time to fall in love in this city as everyone is solely focused on working hard and changing their own lives.

Mandla Ginger states that this is all based on true events and because of this calls it a personal body of work.

Since discovering his vocal abilities at the age of 9, Mandla Ginger
has gone through multiple musical experiments in the hope of
learning the solid foundations in what the song creation process
encompasses. From learning smooth harmonies in an all boys
acapella group in High school to being part of a national champion
choir, he has mastered a particular graceful discipline needed by
every musical influencer. But what I find to be the pleasurable
aspect of this individual is the effort he puts into his work. And his
constant emphasis on how the listener should always be respected
hence every creative process in conceiving any song needs to be
done with the uttermost level of respect for any audience so that
when they fall in love with the music it is both genuine and
authentic. This way the music can generically create its own
following above the artist’s.
Mandla Ginger was born in Diepkloof, Soweto and raised in over
three Southern African countries but chose to settle in
Johannesburg after completing his tertiary studies. The main
reason why he chose to settle in Johannesburg was mostly because
it was the hub of Southern African creativity and just like New York,
making it in Jo’burg would mean making it within the African
continent.
He is a songwriter whose themes revolve around mostly love in all
its forms but his unique take on this is how he chooses to be honest
with why his relationships failed in the past and it’s this honesty
that makes his music relatable.
Before 2018, he was a performing Indie-Soul artist but since gaining
access to a team that understands his creative strengths and
abilities, he has become a cross-over artist with all his songs
tackling two genres a set. This makes him more interesting to listen
to and also a relatable artist to different demographics
internationally
