HRDF: How did you discover the original track ? 
DI: When I was digging into Brazilian music and "sambistas" aka samba masters, Paulinho Da Viola came up real quick, for the obvious reason he is a living legend !

HRDF: Why did you choose to edit it ? 
DI: The percussions & voice of the intro are breathtaking (to me at least), real deep and almost electronic in its regularity and depth. I often used it in my sets as intro, outro or transition, and eventually decided to make it pump some more, twist it and give a dirty & dark touch to it.

HRDF: What is your relationship with the art of edit ? 
DI: A good one haha, an open relationship, with no frontiers. Some people only believe in the "slight touch" editing, but honestly I don't care, to me it's more about enhancing with respect an aspect/instrument/sample of a song/artist/both. For example I made a mash up of two songs of Rage Against the Machine, remixed it downtempo style with cumbia percussions and hang drum sounds : 3 different universes, but I am quite proud of being the one connecting them : https://soundcloud.com/da-iguana/cumbia-against-the-machine-ratm-double-edit . In the end to me it's just about having fun, making people smile while respecting the artist and its legacy.

HRDF: What are your expectations for the future ? What are you working on ? What do you dream to do as an artist ? 
DI: Well, I have many expectations, mainly I hope societies will put more trust into their youths to make the world change faster regarding ecological & social issues, and not repeating that shitty mistake loop that keeps on happening since WW2. I wish for more music, art, open-mindness and a greener, slower world.
Got many projects on the run, a LP on Playground Records this summer, something also in the oven for HF next winter, currently developing my new label Reptilian Business Records (1st VA this autumn !), and getting back to work with my Ethno Kult collective. I don't have so much spare time these days, I like being busy with what I'm passionate about! A lot of events also I hope, including my new love for forest micro-raving hehehe.
I don't plan to live from my art, I think nowadays it's quite greedy & egoistic to be claiming one deserves to live from one's art when the world is shifting to people being a lot more creative with technological tools helping them. So many good musicians, artists, graphic designers, even DJs. How can you respect all of them who have something special to show to the world? Just do it for passion and don't count on money coming in haha, that's my POV
I dream mostly about co-creating with more people, learning all my life, and bringing smiles or emotions to people until the end of my existence :)

Inspired by Brazilian mythology, "Boiuna" is a tribute to the legendary black snake, also known as Cobra Grande. This nocturnal creature is referred to as the most powerful beast of the rivers of the Amazon rainforest. Picturing this mythos, one can already get a glimpse of the powerful and mystic sound that got created. So get ready to dive into a deep and trippy journey, where acid-infused grooves intertwine with bouncy beats.

The room was a decadent delight. Upon entry the smells of radiant sandalwood and oak were almost assertive, yet humble in their welcome. In the corner sat an armchair, it was placed so as to allow for a delicate gaze downward towards the garden below. It was there for watching...

We are thrilled to present our 19th release "Mapinguari," a captivating musical journey created by the talented Brazilian artists Mandruvá and Torstol. Inspired by the legendary creature of the Amazon rainforest, this EP features two unique remixes by Leonor and A-Tweed.

The Legend of Mapinguari: Rooted in the rich folklore of the Amazon Region, the Mapinguari legend tells of a forest-dwelling creature, a hairy giant with one eye on its forehead and a mouth on its navel. Some believe it is covered in brown/red fur, while others say it dons armor made from the shell of a tortoise. This mythical being's origins remain shrouded in mystery, with various versions attributing its existence to indigenous tribes living in the heart of the rainforest. According to certain beliefs, individuals of a certain age may undergo a transformation into the Mapinguari, leading them to seek solace in the isolation of the lush woodlands.

The "Mapinguari" EP combines the visionary prowess of Mandruvá and Torstol, resulting in an enchanting blend of sounds that draws listeners into the heart of the Amazonian mystery. Leonor and A-Tweed contribute their unique interpretations, adding further layers of depth and artistry to this already captivating release. The sonic world of "Mapinguari" by Mandruvá & Torstol will be available on all digital Plattforms from September 15th 2023. Ludviq is the project of Luis Fernando, born in Guadalajara, MX, now based in Barcelona, Catalunya.
Dj, Sound Designer & Producer of Electronic Music since 2016, with influences like Psychedelic, Italo, Post Punk, Indie, Breaks, Disco and EBM.
Founder of the Mexican electronic label @bonkersmsc since 2018

Directly involved with social and environmental causes in Brazil, Murillo Faleiros is an educator and biologist. Known as mandruvá (@mandruvamusic), the producer and DJ carries in his expression a universal background of diverse musical styles. The artist has worked for major national and international labels, such as Casa Caos, Tropical Twista, AKASHA MX, trndmsk, Cafe de Anatolian, MONADA, Lump, Shango, Baikal Nomads, Kosa, among others. His storytelling aired on different radio stations and labels around the world, such as radiOzora, voodoohop, Deep House Moscow, Mousike and more.
