The Whisper of the Wendigo
In the frozen forests of the north, where the wind cuts like blades and the trees creak like old bones, the legend of the Wendigo is told. It is not a being, the elders say, but a hunger. A hunger that walks.
Centuries ago, in a village surrounded by eternal fir trees, lived a hunter named Maikan. He was strong, wise, and respected by his tribe. But that winter was cruel. The snow fell relentlessly, the animals fled, and hunger settled in like a faceless guest.
Maikan, desperate, ventured into the forest alone, searching for prey. Days passed. When he returned, his eyes were no longer his own. He brought meat, yes, but no one knew where it came from. His wife looked at him in horror. His son cried without knowing why. And that night, the fire provided no warmth.
The Wendigo had entered.
They say the Wendigo doesn't transform suddenly. First, it whispers to you. It promises you strength, warmth, power. Then it demands meat. Solitude. Silence. Maikan began to change. Her skin turned gray like ash. Her fingers long as branches. Her voice, a hollow echo.
One night, she disappeared. Only footprints that weren't human remained, and a trail of black frost.
