Que Sakamoto is a DJ and producer who has become Japan’s latest export to the world. From his deep roots in the Tokyo underground, he finds himself outside Japan most of the year on his relentless tours of Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas.

Didgeridoo trance, videogame vibes, vicious jungle, and proper dirty boner electronica await LAYEREd in his two-hour selection for WPD. 

From Que’s first international booking in 2014 by 65MQ in Milan, Italy arose a series of invitations around Europe. Neil Diablo invited him to the U.K. where he played with Craig Richards, Fabric resident, and Dave Harvey, Future Boogie. Then an invitation from Harry James, Snap Crackle & Pop (SC&P), to play the Waiting Room with Brézier, Ivan Smagghe and Rupert Cross. From the U.K. invitations led to Belgium, France, Turkey, Lithuania and a tour-of-sorts across Europe was born.

Lithuania plays a pivotal role in Que Sakamoto’s DJ career. Especially his connection to Club Opium and Manfredas who hammered in a wooden signpost with Que Sakamoto’s name on it in 2020, two years after his mythical set at the Ant Bangos festival in 2018 at the Port of Nida, which sky-rocketed his career as an emerging artist. At this festival he met Joakim who introduced him to New York City where he played many gigs like the Good Room and also did a radio show for Tim Sweeney on Beats In Space.

Your music extends far beyond your Lithuanian base, Vilnius and your club-night Smala at Opium Club. You have already blessed our ears with fine excursions on Ivan Smagghe's Le Disques De La Mort. You have also remixed the likes of Jaakko Eino Kalevi and given us a free download of it. You've been out on the ice making videos for your records and your Pink Industry outpouring has even been PIMPED.  You've even been in the national Lithuanian charts with a cover version of "Vamos ala playa" and hit number 19. Luckily nobody knows it was you.

Whether it’s chugging cold wave, slow-mo electro or warped neo-trance, the music Manfredas writes and spins maintains a wild off-kilter charm that makes him one of the most exciting DJ/producers on the planet right now.

After playing on the radio circuit in Lithuania since he was just 13 years old, his name was launched to the world through the release of 'Pink Industry' on Ivan Smagghe and Leon Oakey's prolific Les Disques De La Mort imprint in 2016. The EP introduced his unique brand of freaky psychedelia that borrows the best of new wave, leftfield disco, synth-pop, krautrock and more and molds them into motorik dancefloor gold.

With a collection of artists from his home city of Vilnius, Manfredas also runs the Smala parties at Opium Club, which celebrates its fifth birthday at the Garzen Festival at the end of January with Red Axes, Abrão (live), local heroes 12 Inčų Po Žeme and more. The club - cited by numerous discerning selectors as one of their favorite places to play on the planet - is also where Manfredas spins many of his famed marathon sets, which have led to him being referred to as the 'people's champion' in his home town.
