50% Mexican / 50% Guatemalan label run by Fabio Me Llaman Soltero & Tyu, born in a lucid dream close to Rio Suchiate (border Guatemala-México). Label inspired by/from raw and honest sounds of the global south and their culture.

The first release comes from the multidisciplinary Australian producer & composer Chrysalis who musically reflects that attitude with a bundle of tracks filled with experimentation and personality, complemented by three remixes by fellow friends that share this particular point of view in terms of music: Thomas Von Party, A-Tweed & Mi Sun.

Berlin based Tony y Not released this indie dance banger, which Jorkes expertly crafted into a remix with their signature Techno twist.

Jorkes art is rooted in gender, queer and egalitarian attitudes and can often be provocative, whether musically or performatively. This plays out with the always fascinating Freeride Millenium label which they co-runs with their muse, lover and partner Daniel Rajcsanyi aka ParisBöhm. 

Together, they have become central players in Europe's LBGTQIA+ scene thanks to the way they freely express themselves, their emotions and their experiences through their work.

German-born but Austria-based Jorkes only put out their first release in 2016, but soon started turning heads. Their characterful music melds all manner of classic and new school disco sounds with house and electro. Like all the music on Freeride Millenium, their releases come with often confrontational imagery shot by partner Daniel. It has lent the label a unique visual identity that stands it apart and reconnects with dance music's roots in marginalised communities.

With collaborators Jorkes runs the HOT all-gender sauna parties in Vienna. They have long provided a place for their community to come together in a safe space and explore their sexualities without fear of reprisals. During the pandemic, they had to be canceled and the community was left with nowhere to go. As such, it highlighted the importance the dance floor has when it comes to creative thinking, sexual liberation and multicultural amplification. This gave rise to the label's three-part IMPACT compilation as well as a series of discussions around the topic.
Also in 2020, Jorkes curated a compilation for Queer Base, a charity organisation in Vienna that offers social services and legal counseling to LGBTQIA+ refugees who arrive in Austria. It once again proved that Jorkes's mission goes way beyond simply making party music and is instead driven just as much by social causes and uplifting his community.

Next to their music on Freeride Millenium, which was recently featured as DJ Mag’s ‘Vital Label’, Jorkes has stepped up to the influential Frankfurt imprint Live at Robert Johnson with a superb EP as well as dropping music on the highly regarded Permanent Vacation. They have collaborated with NIKKNAME for Ombra International, remixed for Riotvan in Leipzig and have a track on the London based label Family Drama compilation. They took part in a Beatport live stream with some friends in a Vienna art gallery and have some extremely high profiles podcast mixes coming up in 2023.

Alongside ParisBöhm, whom Jorkes describes as their "endless source of love, joy and inspiration," they host a popular monthly radio show on Radio 80000 which has a devoted fan base, and they also hold down a DJ residency at Stuttgart's Romantica. "I directly digest and convert my life's happenings into something expressional that puts me in a dialogue with like-minded people around the world," says Jorkes. As their mission continues, those conversations become increasingly influential.

Leftfield pop project das SPEZIAL mints its second EP with the drum talents of Radiohead’s Clive Deamer and remixes from experimental icon Matthew Herbert and Italian house innovator Fango.

das SPEZIAL is an art project rooted in collaboration, driven by British-Iranian producer Shahab Notghi’s endless search for the fiercest talent, from unknown singers to world-renowned mixing engineers, all with the aim of creating spellbinding, experimentally-minded sound and vision.

The second record in the KIDS series introduces Taya Michington, a precociously talented singer- songwriter plunged into the psychedelic, technicolour SPEZIAL sound-world. After raw, improvised songwriting sessions, SPEZIAL spearhead Shahab Notghi built up wild sonic tapestries drawn from modular synthesis and experimental signal chains around Michington’s voice.

Echoing the process on past SPEZIAL projects, the additional collaborators are an essential piece of the puzzle. The tracks on KIDS#2 grew in stature with the multi-instrumental intervention from regular collaborator Stew Jackson (Massive Attack, Phantom Limb) and the addition of celebrated drummer Clive Deamer to the SPEZIAL constellation. Having previously recorded and toured with the likes of Radiohead, Portishead, Robert Plant and Roni Size, Deamer’s distinct percussive touch deepens the rhythmic drive of KIDS#2

Building on the striking sound of Daniel Avery’s remix on KIDS#1, for the second chapter pioneering UK producer Matthew Herbert lends his unmistakable touch to ‘I Had A Dream’, a club-minded flip of ‘What Does It Mean’. In the wake of his widely acclaimed 2023 album The Horse, Herbert responds to SPEZIAL’s curious spirit by drawing on his peerless legacy of non- conformist house music with a show-stopping dancefloor version.

Alongside Herbert’s remix comes a version of ‘I Had A Dream’ from celebrated Venetian DJ and producer Fango. The Degustibus Music boss has a fascinating, wayward approach to 4/4 himself, and his interpretation comes on as dramatic electronica splashed with grandiose synth-pop sensibilities and a finely tuned balance between tension and release.

As the net gets thrown wider and more singular talents feed into the project, das SPEZIAL continues to be an incubator for visionary artistry and unbridled adventures in sound.

Spæcial Edit #16 - Eyes Age

Balam drops his first release for Playground Records: three tracks for the mix with artificially organic sounds and reminiscences of technological rituals. They are accompanied by three remixes from the hand of @rodion_gomma, @JackWasFaster and Leonor.

Rodion remix of Machete track that oscillates between smooth and rugged textures. The frontline is occupied by a very present and tireless baseline, which leaves enough space for the voices from the original track to make an appearance together with new elements that leave an acid taste in the mouth.

Our dear Günce Aci (SXDNS129) is one of the most skilful producers we had the privilege to know since the beginning of our "Sexy" journey through the mixtape & premiere universe. For her new EP – "Swallow" –, the second we have the pleasure of premiering, the important Spanish label Dogs & Vultures Records brought together an incredible team of remixers for her incredible originals: Darlyn Vlys, Roe Deers (SXDNS138) and MontCosmik.

The original we chose to review, "The Circle Is Not Round", showcases Günci’s best side: Her ability to combine different elements - the fruit of her many influences - into a seamless hotchpotch of sonorities. Dark, ethnic, trippy, analog… you name it. She is definitely able to amass whatever musical imprint that lies in her head and give life to something fresh and innovative without losing the touch of focusing on the dance floor.
