Stroboscopic Artefacts is releasing its latest addition to the forward leaning edge of electronic music with the Totem series, unfurling as a chain of transparent 10” vinyl, each of them having their own subtly divergent takes on the aesthetic space defined by techno and club culture. The Totem series continues investigations previously established by Stroboscopic Artefacts, namely the relation between sound and material object, spatiotemporality and the architecture of music. The Totem series aims collapse the artist, their intention and resonance with the public into one object, an artifact of beauty and functionality, the transparent 10-inch which becomes an emblem. In choosing a less common format for the Totem series, Stroboscopic Artefacts aims to reinforce the cognition that each of these pressings is a unique object, carrying a message that will develop as the record’s existence moves through space and time.

The productions of label-head, Lucy, aka Luca Mortellaro, will be the first pressed into the icy vinyl of the Totem series. The three-track EP, titled “Tarkomania”, is a circular meditation on specific musical and philosophic themes and a warm invitation into Lucy’s famously nuanced sound processes. The A-side title track stakes out the sonic territory which the next two tracks will work within: an angular dance floor interlude, “Tarkomania” builds dark hued mood and texture over one of the spilling monologues of Russian cult classic film director Tarkovsky’s in “Stalker”. The monolog is a probing search for meaning and inspiration within the creative process, a theme that Mortellaro was quick to establish at the beginning of the discourse that will accompany the duration of Totem. “Tarkomania Dub” on B1 takes the listener one circle deeper into the groove filled anxiety set forth in A1, flickering between a set of industrial sounds windows, anchored by the guttural voice of Takovsky’s writer and snippets of the warm and moody synth that accompany the listener throughout the EP. “Tarkomania Acapella” on B2 is a summation of these elements with an emphasis on the “Stalker” monolog. Greater than the sum of its parts, Lucy’s contribution to the Totem series is succinct, if veiled and mysterious, investigation into the eternal questions that define the artistic process.

Stereo Productions duo Chus & Ceballos, reshape the original with vacillating synth flutters, pulsating low-end shuffles and bumpy percussion whilst stirring in the originals frenzied acid licks, airy strings and vocoder voice licks.

German duo Monkey Safari have finally released their powerful debut album ‘Odyssey’ after years of touring around the world’s dance floors. Now, the group have followed up with not one, not two, but three remix EPs and Mixmag has grabbed hold of Tensnake’s take on the title track. Tensnake explained that his take was inspired by the track’s vocals, which led him to take a 90s, industrial vibe. Odyssey’s second remix EP is out July 13th.

Amsterdam based Luuk van Dijk is welcomed into the Hot Creations fold this July with his heavy-hitting Parallax E.P. Chicago production wizard DJ Skull is also on board to rework the B-side.

Title track Parallax is set to cause a serious stir at festivals and clubs alike this summer. The smattering of high-hats elevate the track as the space-like beeps and blips add another facet. On the flip, Dimension applies an ominous vocal stab as the bass rumbles — perfect for low ceiling basement raves. On the remix, DJ Skull adds a touch of Chicago class via some softer vocals, dubby chords and a pounding bass. At the tender age of 22, Luuk van Dijk has been signed to acclaimed labels such as VIVa Music, Roush, Food Music, Sanity and Lost Records. Championed by stalwarts such as Steve Lawler and Eats Everything, he has taken his sound to some of the world’s most prestigious events.

Ron Maney aka DJ Skull became known for being one of the first DJs to play the new sound coming out of Chicago, honing his craft at the infamous Music Box and Power Plant. Releasing records since the early 90s, he later launched his own labels Hypnotic Tones and Wax Candy Records. Recent releases have appeared on Chiwax, Domina Trxxx and Mentha Records.
