This piece is part of "The News" by Manic Chord Theatre performed at the West Yorkshire Playhouse as part of the Furnace program. 

Luca and Nick meet is the second scene in the show where we are introduced to the characters Nick and Luca. Luca is an internet savvy, online socialite who spends so much time indulging in digital media that she spares little time for her real life. In contrast, Nick is an anxiety ridden skeptic of the internet and media as a whole. The scene depicts the day to day reality of two strangers momentarily meeting in the street.

This is a collection of original pieces which were created and used in the performance of "The News" at the West Yorkshire Playhouse (WYP) on October 10th 2014 in Leeds. The piece was developed as part of the WYP's Furnace program which gives new and emerging artists the chance to take ambitious, initial ideas from seed to fruition.

Alex Monk, Sam Berrill and David Cartwright formed the company in September 2012 after graduating from Leeds University. These three form the core of the company and have collaboratively devised Don’t Let Go. The company are dedicated to the ideas of collective creation and ensemble theatre.

Manic Chord Theatre are resident artists at Temple.Works.Leeds. The company was formed with the intention of continuing to work in a collective and playful manner inspired by their studies at the University of Leeds. The company has a highly energetic, physical, and competitive style with an emphasis on story telly and visually stunning work.

Manic Chord Theatre offers internships to students in Leeds providing the chance to work with the company on its artistic output and as part of the education programme.

Manic Chord Theatre’s first show, After What Comes Before, was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2013. The show received strong high audience numbers and positive critical acclaim.
