Pinkshinyultrablast, are a five-piece band from Saint-Petersburg in Russia. The first single ‘Umi’ is due for release on November 10th. The song is indicative of an album full of melodic gems. Umi is rich with complexity, while underpinned with a beauty that both beguiles and entrances. The song evokes the spirit of bands like Slowdive and The Cocteau Twins, but at the same time remaining undeniably modern.

Hailing from a city more synonymous with the State Conservatory rather than a gang of shoegaze addicts, they’ve been compared to Lush. But this is no mere throwback tribute - due to their sharp, icy electronics and ability to subvert the genre, bringing something new to the table. They possess not only the spirit of late 80s/early 90s British bands like Ride, but also machine-made sounds of the same era from Sabres Of Paradise or Global Communication, not to mention wider vibrations like Cluster, Popul Vuh, Terry Riley and Philip Glass.

Disdain for a stagnant scene can often be a driving force of creativity; the band say of St Petersburg that, “we realised the local indie scene was totally boring and wanted to play something radically different”. That vision has been realised – this is a sound brimming with playful melody and finely-crafted songwriting. Imagine the scope of a Caribou record, fronted by Elizabeth Fraser soundtracking a grizzly Raskolnikov crime.

The band take their name from an Astrobrite album, an act who were, according to the band, instrumental in how they “researched spaces between ambient, heavy guitar and pop music” .The spaces are what stand out, the production creates a dream-like affair, while space to breathe and reflect on the beauty of the music is accommodated. There exists a sparseness to their sound, that, in turn gives spaciousness, even expansiveness.

Danish four-piece Communions have announced details of a new EP. Communions will be released on Tough Love Records on Monday 1st June. There will be two vinyl pressings - one on black vinyl, the other on blue available only from the Tough Love store.

The self-titled EP features lead track Out of My World and is accompanied by 4 other tracks, all recorded in their hometown of Copenhagen. The listing of the EP is as follows:

The EP is the second release on Tough Love Records, following the release of AA-side single So Long Sun/Love Stands Still at the end of 2014. The limited 7” sold-out and Pitchfork were quick to praise the A-side and hone in on their musical influences: “The song oozes effervescent warbles—from vocalist Martin Rehof, and the interplay of shimmering guitars, and lovely crescendos of reverb, reminiscent of early Stone Roses.” (Pitchfork)

Communions, made up of brothers Martin and Mads Rehof, Jacob van Deurs Formann and Frederik Lind Köppen, are fast-gaining attention for their transcendent melodies, delicate guitar lines and emotive pop songs about naivety and youth.

Depth of Field is the first song to be taken from Sea Pinks forthcoming album Soft Days, due for release in January 2016 via CF Records. Rich in natural imagery and autumn colour, Depth of Field twists and turns on the super melodic guitar line of the verse and a lush, dreamy chorus extolling the virtues of uncertainty. 

Sea Pinks are a three piece from Belfast featuring Neil Brogan (ex-Girls Names, CRUISING) on guitar and vocals, Steven Henry (Documenta) on bass and Davey Agnew (Newton Forest FC) on drums.

Manifesto Records has released music from a celebrated list of artists. Founded in 1993, Manifesto is the successor to indie labels dating back to 1968, beginning as Bizarre Records (and its companion label, Straight Records). Bizarre signed artists such as Alice Cooper, Tim Buckley, Captain Beefheart, Wild Man Fischer, and others. Later, a third label, Discreet, was added, and the labels released albums until 1975. Starting in 1988, the reactivated Bizarre/Straight reissued albums by Tim Buckley, Alice Cooper, The GTOs, Lord Buckley, Captain Beefheart, and others.

In 1994, in addition to the core albums by Tom Waits (his earliest recordings, released as The Early Years Volumes 1 and 2), and many albums from Tim Buckley, Manifesto began to release new albums and re-issues, including albums by The Wedding Present, and, later, Cinerama, and other British bands like Sing-Sing featuring Emma Anderson from Lush, tribute albums to Tom Waits and Tim Buckley, Concrete Blonde, Lilys and Cranes. In 2005, The Wedding Present re-formed and Manifesto released the well-received Take Fountain, and later, El Rey. 

In 2001, Manifesto re-issued one of the most important catalogues in punk rock history — five albums by Dead Kennedys. Later, another live album was released, and in 2005 Manifesto also released Dead Kennedys’ first album, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, in both an original version and a new package with a new documentary DVD entitled Fresh Fruit for Rotting Eyeballs. With these last releases, the entire Dead Kennedys catalogue was now on Manifesto, where it remains to this day. In 2014, Manifesto released a box set of 7’ vinyl singles, all in the original packaging.

In 2009, Manifesto became the home of the imprint for The Turtles, called FloEdCo. We have released The Turtles’ Save The Turtles: The Turtles’ Greatest Hits; vinyl re-issues of It Ain’t Me Babe and Happy Together; and three albums by Flo & Eddie. In 2014, we released a box set of eight 7” vinyl singles.

Manifesto Records will continue to release and re-issue quality recordings in the future. Manifesto is distributed by eOne Distribution in the U.S. and Canada, and by Proper Music in the UK and Ireland, and H'art Distribution in the rest of Europe.
