"During the pandemic, Arts & Culture vanished. It was forgotten mercilessly, characterized as an unimportant aspect of society and encouraged to bury itself under the soil of ‘chosen economy.’ The cultural landscape was first to shut down and last to be re-opened, without any support, quick as a flash, culture and living art was dead.

I embraced this thought and condition and chose to fast for seven days during each lockdown during a period of isolation while creating a performance art series using images, music compositions, and text. Such a creative endeavor has given me the tools to communicate and express; what I call – a hunger

for cultural engagement. This process allowed me to reflect on the current situation with inner depth and creative care."

Fasting Culture is Barkosina Hanusova's debut book publication with a music tape, drenched in multidisciplinary art forms her magnum opus entitled “Fasting Culture” has no shortage of performance art elements. Barkosina draws resemblance of human nutritive starvation with cultural starvation, urging us to reevaluate what cultural existence means to us. 

Throughout the creation of this Opus, Barkosina has fasted and created a daily audio piece with spontaneity and immediacy, capturing raw material that reflects on the current emotion in time and space.
