"La Habanera" is the name of a well-known aria from Carmen, an opera by Georges Bizet. The habanera aria itself is originally based on "El Arreglito" by Sebastián de Yradier, a Basque composer. "La Habanera" enjoys great popularity outside the opera world, it´s probably one of the most famous arias in the world, revisited and reinterpreted hundreds of times since its release in 1875. The aria is sung in Act 1 by the title character, Carmen (mezzo-soprano), in it she expresses her indifference to the protestations of love and advances of her numerous suitors.

Daniel´s "Vem" track, released in April this year already made use of string orchestration. Its string sounds and classic music that Daniel currently gets the most excited about.

When Daniel accidentally stumbled across the aria while listening to Berlin´s Klassik Radio, he noticed that the first notes of "La Habanera" are rhythmically played like a dembow rhythm. Soon he searched for the midi files of the aria, realised its metrics was based on 75bpm - perfect dembow tempo - and sculpted the dub in two days studio time.

Shortly after, Daniel met Armenian opera singer Naré, with whom he recorded an additional vocal version of "La Habanera" (which we´ll release in a couple of weeks from now).

Daniel Haaksman returns with the 2nd part of the "La Habanera" release, the vocal version feat. Naré.

It´s the debut release of Eriwan, Armenia, born Naré, a classically trained soprano opera singer and pianist. Daniel met Naré at a party in Berlin. When she told him she was an opera singer, he invited her to the studio and within a few hours, they recorded the famous aria from the Carmen opera, originally written by Georges Bizet. Daniel produced the beat, and voilá here´s probably the first ever dembow based aria!

“Danza Del Fuego” is the fifth single release from Daniel Haaksman´s recent “Sonido Lava” album. Released as an instrumental only on the album, “Danza Del Fuego” is now dropped as a vocal version featuring the mighty MALAGÜERA, who has already contributed vocals on earlier singles “La Mujer Dormida” and “Bruja”.

Analogous to the “Sonido Lava” album´s topic of volcanoes and eruptions as signifyers for change, “Danza Del Fuego” adds another page in the album´s story with lyrics about the fire dance we´re currently all going through in this multi crisis time.

With its Diwali riddim inspired groove, a simple yet punchy accordeon hook and the bewichting vocals of MALAGÜERA, “Danza Del Fuego” is both radio friendly ear worm and a club ready tune. The single comes enhanced with a heavy bassed 808 version, in which in early Plastikman vibes 808 drums roll out underneath the irresistible accordeon hook.

A little more than four months after the release of Daniel Haaksman ́s much acclaimed "Sonido Lava" album, Man Recordings is happy to release a first volume of remixes in EP format. The remixer cast consists of a trans atlantic roster of artists that Daniel currently feels inspired by.

First off in this remix package is Timo Maas, probably one of Germany ́s biggest names in techno. In 1999, he rose to global fame with his rave remix of "Dooms Nights" by Azido Bass. Fast forward 24 years, Timo is still much in demand. He just remixed Peru ́s Nova Lima for Nervous Records and turned out to be a big supporter of Daniel Haaksman ́s original "Magma" track, which he remade in a dirty house flavour, Timo Maas style.
Remix #2 is by Lisbon ́s Pedro Da Linha, who released his much lauded "Rua Rosa 24 EP" on Man Recordings early summer. PEDRO, as he was formerly called, swapped the original strings of "Magma" with a catchy accordeon melody, resembling Portuguese folk music but with an Afro-Lusophonic feeling. It is followed by Cartagena, Colombia born and now Berlin based champeta don ARN4L2, who recontextualized "Surto De Amor" ft. Felipe Cordeiro in a Colombian-Caribbean flavour. Remix #4 is by Chilean bred, London based DJ Raff who remixed one of "Sonido Lavas" hit singles, "Bruja" ft. MALAGÜERA + Los Bulldozer in his trademark mid tempo electronic dembow style.

Edu K "Sexxx-O-U"

Originally recorded in 1979 in Paris but only released independently in Brazil in 1981, Fernando Falcão´s "Curimão" was released on the "Memória Das Aguas" album. Originally a much sought after record, it was re-released by Selva Discos in 2019.

Its mastermind, Fernando Falcão, left Brasil in 1968 during the peak of military dictatorship and moved to France, where he lived in exile for 15 years. There, after working in music, acting, and sculpting, he involved himself in Jérôme Savary's legendary Grand Magic Circus, where he met his first wife, Valérie Kling. It was from this relationship that a partnership began between the musician and his father-in-law, the artist François-Xavier Lalanne, who guided Falcão in the process of inventing sound sculptures such as the balauê – a horizontal version of the berimbau string instrument whose sound was influenced by a water stream (since there was a hose soaking parts of the balauê wet during the performances). Much of this exploration and experimentation resulted in the album "Memória das Águas", from which "Curimão" stems from.

A long time fan of Fernando Falcão´s music, Daniel Haaksman now enhanced „Curimão“ with heavy bass and turned this rare groove into a club friendly DJ track. It´s #1 in the "More Black Atlantica Edits" series which will kick off on Man Recordings in Janaury. It´s predecessor, "Black Atlantica Edits" was released on BBE records early 2020.

Fernando Falcão "Curimão" (Daniel Haaksman Edit)

One of the most iconic pop songs to ever emerge from the German language sphere is undoubtedly Falco´s "Der Kommissar". Originally released in 1981, it was the ironic yet brazen Austrian take on then brand new New York rap music. Released only two years after the release of "Rappers Delight" by Sugar Hill Gang, "Der Kommissar" was an international sensation and a #1 chart hit in various European countries as well as a global club hit. For many teenagers during the 1980s, Falco showed that also white people can rap, even in German - probably the most difficult language for pop music.

"Der Kommissar" soon also reveberated in Brasil, particularly in the southern part of the giant South American country with its history of German migration. For Porto Alegre band Comunidade Nin-Jitsu, one of the most known rap-rock-funk groups in Brasil, "Der Kommissar" was a major influence in their prime years, so in 1998, they decided to release their take on the Austrian hit and recorded "Rap Do Trago (Vai Começar)" ("it´s about to begin"), a phonetic interpretation of "Der Kommissar" (actually meaning "The inspector" in German). The song is produced by fellow Porto Alegre kingpin Edu K and additionally called "Rap Do Trago" ("Rap about getting drunk") and celebrates the joys of cachaça drinking.

Man Recordings head honcho Daniel Haaksman played "Vai Começar" for many years as closing track in his sets, fast forward to 2024 and the Brasilian interpretation of the classic Austrian rap sees its re-releases on German label Man Recordings.

After the much acclaimed Daniel Haaksman edit for "Curimão" by Fernando Falcão, comes another Haaksman rework in the shape of "Ondas" (Portuguese for "Waves"). It´s #2 in the recently launched "More Black Atlantica Edits" series.

"Ondas" is an edit of an unreleased track by the mysterious Malandros De Berlim, a four piece German-Brasilian outfit that only released one 7" single in West Germany the mid 1970s and then disbanded.

"Ondas" is a deep rare groove samba, which easily lets the listener picture a late afternoon surf ride in the waves of Arpoador beach in Rio De Janeiro. It´s a beautiful deep track for the laid back DJs or the wee small hours sets that will create warm waves across any dancefloor.

Os Malandros De Berlim "Ondas" (Daniel Haaksman Edit)

One of the greatest Angolan rumba composers of his generation, Prado Paím began singing in the 1950s and made his stage debut in the following decade. His song „Engracia“, originally released in 1974, went to become of the biggest hits in Angola. It was the first 7“ single to reach gold status in a country where a domestic music industry was only about to kick off as a platform for homegrown musicians. Sung in one of the main Angolan native languages, Kimbundu, it´s a love song dedicated to a woman named Engracia. Musically, the original song is heavily influenced by Congolese rumba.

Daniel Haaksman had the 7“ vinyl for years in his collection. When digging through his own crates lately, he rediscovered the mesmerizing song of Prado Paim, ripped it and ran it through an AI program which allowed stems separation. When finding out that the AI extracted acapella of „Engracia“ didn´t sound bad at all, Daniel decided to remix the entire track. He created a beat, engaged his long time collaborator Los Bulldozer from Colombia to play the guitar part, added some reggae leaning synth chords and Prado Paim´s original voice and ready was a rejuvination of an Angolan classic

Through contacts in Angola, Daniel was able to establish a direct connection with Prado Paim, 82 years today, who was impressed by listening to the new mix. In a video recorded just a few days ago, Prado Paim praised the new version and says that he´s happy about the „alemão“ („the German“) to give his old rumba a new life.

So here it is, „Engracia“ the new collaboration track by Daniel Haaksman ft. the original voice by the mighty Prado Paim and the guitars from Los Bulldozer, ready to sweeten your summer with some rumba-reggae vibes! Play it out loud, this big tune will fill dancefloors immediately!

MC Miltinho was released in 2009 on Daniel Haaksman´s "Gostoso EP" and soon became an underground hit.  “Kid Conga“ features MC Miltinho on the mike, the son of baile funk legend MC Batata, singing a nursery rhyme over a heavy, tropical beat, accompanied by an arpeggio that is resembling North Eastern Brasilian forro melodies. The song was later featured in Rock Star Games´GTA IV EP 2 and has become a classic since. Man Recordings is very proud to present the "Flex EP" by São Paulo DJ and producer Sants. Along with other names such as NeguimBeats, Psilosamples, Cybass, Tropkillaz and Omulu, 22 year-old Sants is at the forefront of the new Brazilian beats and bass music scene. "Noite Ilustrada", his first full length album, was conceived during the 2013 Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp in São Paulo. With assistance from many of his Beatwise colleagues, he helped to illustrate the cityscapes and night scenarios average of the Sao Paulo nightlife. After recently starring on Mixmag’s compilation tape with Trapdoor, and a consistent EP "Chavoso", Sants is eager to continue his international collaborations with conviction on his “Flex” EP.


"Flex" is a common term in Brazil for cars that run both on alcohol and gasoline and this is how he wants his music to work as. After a long period of listening just to trap beats, Sants decided to pull some effort shaping the middle-term of what it would be the interpretation of the Brazilian sound by a Brazilian who is nurturing on a diet of both UK bass and global music every single day. The result is the "Flex” EP, who finds home at Man Recordings, another influence for him. In the Eps five tracks, Sants draws club scenarios and urban scapisms of the suburbs of São Paulo by a view of a person who lives its night every single weekend.

Man Recordings returns after a short autumn/winter hiatus with four remixes of the highly praised "Baile Saboroso" Ep by Brazilian wunderkind Omulu and French dembow don King Doudou. The EP was bigged up by players such as Diplo, Munchi, Uproot Andy, Poirier, Feadz and many others.

The remixes are kicked off by Portugal´s tarraxo beat mestre Mambos Da Casa and his sweet Afro house meets baile funk remix of "Bonde Da Pantera" ft. MC Tha. A version perfect for getting ladies started on the dancefloor. The second rework is by Amsterdam based DJ Fasta (of "Fulanito" fame) who added extra Dutch moombathon flavour to the original track.

"Baile Saboroso", the lead track from the original EP gets an edit treatment by Man Rec boss Daniel Haaksman who replaced the original trance synth with Marimbas making it sound more organic. Finally, Kid Cala is baile funking "Baile Saboroso" to high fever pitch with his club friendly version.

Daniel Haaksman ́s remixes have been a fixture in the global club scene for years, offering up a hard-to-define blend of Brazilian and Afro sounds mixed with various club genres. “Remixes 2008-2017” shows Daniel Haaksman ́s eclectic sound melded into a more club-friendly format with eleven remixes for artists such as Schlachthofbronx, Batuk, Felipe Cordeiro, Omulu and Populous amongst others, most of which were released over the past nine years.


The compilation “Remixes 2008-2017” now anthologises Daniel Haaksman ́s best remixes, covering his finest remixes from 2007 up to 2017. The compilation displays his preference for remixing a diverse range of artists from around the world, including Germany ́s Schlachthofbronx, South Africa ́s Batuk or Weird Together from New Zealand. The opener, a remix for Brazilian Nordestino star Felipe Cordeiro kicks off with a hip shaking, dembow inspired beat. Colombia ́s Makine Del Karibe gets reworked in a tropical house fashion, the Brazilian-French collaboration of Omulu + King Doudou receives a trap inspired treatment. The compilation excels when it showcases Daniel Haaksman ́s knack for transforming the original onto a club ready rework withouth losing the original ́s essence and identity. “Loco” for example by Cuban outfit Madera Limpia is remixed into a dancefloor bomb, deftly layering synths and percussions on a thundering beat. Other highlights include his recent remix for Italian up and commer, Populous as well as Montreal- Moçambican singer Samito.

Creating a great remix is a delicate process, one that requires a relationship to the original, yet also a certain forcefulness in order to create a new production, rather than merely adding another beat to an acappella or melody. Over the last decade, Daniel Haaksman has displayed exactly this balance of reverence and confidence, creating his own sound in using the groundwork of others to build upon. This compilation presents Haaksman ́s capacity to produce remixes that sound today as fresh as they did when they were originally released.

we can hardly believe it ourselves, but our little label just turned fifteen. In human terms it would mean we´re teenagers in full swing, in dance music terms it´s like we´re silver agers. In the fast paced world of dance we´ve seen a lot of trends come and go. We´ve also seen artist careers rising quickly to the top and then suddenly crumbling. And despite the profound changes in the musical landscape, we´re still here and people still play our music. One of the reasons is that we stuck to our original aim: To release exciting music from around the world.

Since Man 01, the "Não Wave - Brazilian Post Punk 1979-1988" compilation, we were especially keen on blending local roots with the global in music, which has become a mega trend in pop and dance music. When we started the label in 2005 the internet was still a privilige of the Northern hemisphere and people were still buying vinyls and CDs.

Since we can´t throw a big celebration for our anniversary due to pandemic restrictions, we decided to put together a compilation with remixes of fifteen tracks from our catalogue. We asked young and upcoming remixers that grew up with the Man Recordings sound over all these years, to put their hand onto selected tracks and rework them 2020 style.

The line up is great and the remixes even greater. The "15 Years Of Man Recordings" compilation features reworks by Ckrono, Lorenzo BITW, 2Pekes, Rolv.K, Kensaye, KG, Don Low, Bianca Oblivion and So Vital amongst others. There´s some super fresh takes on our former releases, and some solid club compatible bangers. They all resonate that Man Recordings is here to stay!

Northern Italy, particularly Milan and the Veneto area have always been very open minded when it comes to new club sounds. Italy´s best tropical bass night, "Balera Favela" is hosted in Milan by Ckrono, Milangeles are stemming from Milan and Lamento has been founder of the "Muevelo o Mundo" club nights in the town of Bassano Del Grappa in the Veneto area. Many Man Recordings artists have DJed in clubs of this North Italian network.

Now Lamento, aka Andrea Campagnolo, releases his debut release on Man Recordings. A passionate record collector, Lamento has been digging music from the Southern hemisphere for years, particularly African wax. For his debut, he channels voice recordings from the Mongo people who live in the equatorial forest of Central Africa.

"Balama" comes with an all Italian remix-line up, including a tribally influenced remix by Lorenzo BITW, a UK funky inspired remix by Ckrono and a deeped-out trap remix by The Clerk.

Man Recordings is a Berlin based record label. Founded in 2005 by DJ and producer @Daniel-Haaksman it  has tirelessly promoted regional electronic music styles from the Southern hemisphere, particularly Brazil, the Carribbean and Africa and their international adaptions. Man Recordings has released the who´s who of early baile funk artists such as Mr.Catra, Deize Tigrona,  Edu K, João Brasil, MC Tha, or Mulú, plus some of the first international releases and remixes by artists such as Diplo, Tropkillaz, Crookers, Schlachthofbronx, Bert On Beats plus countless others. Recently the label has become more focussed on the releases and own musical outputs of boss man Daniel Haaksman.
