E2 is the second part of a quarterly EP series from German duo Klartraum, with the following two instalments due to follow later this year. The E stands for Enneagram, a model of human personality that allows you to describe or to find out through which lens you see your reality. Author Stephen Wolinsky has written a book on the subject and it is something that permeates the work of Klartraum.
Helmut Ebritsch and Nadja Lind are Klartraum, the duo that has defined many different shades of house & techno music on a number of labels but mainly their own Lucidflow, which has been active since 2009. Here they offer up four more conceptual tracks that follow on perfectly from the first chapter.
The opening track here, ‘Sky Fall’ was created from scratch when Felix Baumgartner jumped from the stratosphere in his famed stunt last year. The club mix version of it is a liquid and funky bit of house that is all off balance and wavy. Warm synths, spacious atmospheric pads and great panning effects all make for a bit of pensive tech that also manages to make you dance.
Next up is ‘Celebration’, the free flowing and beautifully synthetic tech track with loopy percussive sounds, rattling hooks and a slinky sense of groove that makes you want to shake your limbs.
‘Tree of Life’ steps away from the dancefloor to explore slowly unfolding rhythms, lumpy drums and atmospheric pads that all sound like alien life forms floating in deep space. There’s a sense of tension as things unfold which keeps you locked throughout, revelling in the fantastic sound design and sonic invention.
The cinematic mix of ‘Sky Fall’ is a little more tripped out, with its lazy piano notes, buried deep riffs and intricate details all placing you at the centre of the beguiling track.
This fascinating conceptual series continues in fine form, then, and proves Klartraum can do both dancefloor dynamite and cerebral sonic sketches alike.

In 2009, the Klartraum pairing of Nadja Lind and Helmut Ebritsch initiated with the All Dimensions EP what would become the first of 100 releases on Lucidflow. Originally set up to retain creative and logistical control for their work together and as solo entities, Ludicflow broadened out to encompass friends - both long time and those spontaneous encounters from their worldwide journeys. Since then, they have released digitally, moved into the realm of the physical via CD before recently joining in on the vinyl revolution with eight pieces of Lucidflow hitting wax. 

Now the grand LF100 catalogue number falls to production machine Nadja herself (have no fear, Helmut also makes a showing) with Vagus. At first the track seems restrained for the big 100th blowout. This all changes at the first break. A helicopter whirr 303 drifts in before demented staccato stabs finger jab at you from all angles. Fun and growling. 

Even the usually silken smooth Helmut seems bitten by the bug. His remix breaks down and puts the sole focus on the demented synths, coming across like a delirious gothic fairground ride before kicking back in with its long tailed subby kicks. 

Justin Berkovi, who was recently brought into the Lucidlow family circle, ups the ante even further, aiming squarely at the dancefloor with vibrant 909 hats and classic Detroit chord stabs. Although, for the more languid amongst us, Nadja turns in an extra 'Deep' remix, full of progressive funk. The dementia is lessened but the energy is unabated. When not appearing on their own label, Nadja Lind and Helmut Ebritsch often guest on the imprints of friends they meet on their global travels. One such excursion recently was onto UK producer Tim Cook's Wolf Trap. In order to keep cosmic balance in the universe, the reverse trip has been completed here on the Burden Of Logic EP, appearing here under the Sousk alias along with American producer Stefan Weise.

The pairing bring together the South East UK's penchant for sprightly deep energy and the US's easy going tech grooves. For example, take the pairing of When We Were Free and Lageos. The former is all about pace with subtle but frantic arps and sparkling 909 hats. Its bassline is grooving but urgent and the track grows to warm swells before stripping right back into the dash to the finish line.

In comparison, Lageos is much more languid. Like a cruise down an interstate highway, lit by the pale haze of urban street lighting, its chords gently swap around patterns while the foreground stabs filter in and out of prominence.

The third and title track itself, Burden Of Logic, sits between the two. The bassline is slippery tech incarnate, the percussion punctuated by a resonant clap, but the melodic elements are made up with a harmonic deep splutter, firing out in different places in your peripheral hearing.

As ever, Nadja and Helmut guest to make up the final spot on the package with a remix of When We Were Free. They take the powerfully driving original down a more Perlon-esque path with the elements heavily gated, organic percussion hits snapping into focus out of nowhere and reworking the frantic tech bassline of the original into some real fingertip funk.

Burden Of Logic hits the streets on 23rd May 2016.

The next Lucidflow release comes from scene veteran Patrick Lindsey. His catalogue stretches far back into the mid-nineties but became most prolific through his partnership with Terminal M boss Monika Kruse. With a remix catalogue that touches on esteemed names such as Radio Slave, Adam Beyer, Marc Romboy, Andre Kraml, Thomas Schumacher and Oliver Huntemann, he brings an infectious main room bounce to Lucidflow with Prof. Fee 2009.
 
For the first half of the track, you are lulled into a techy groove with a rubbery bassline and sharp staccato percussion. The conceit happens halfway through a hook arrives; it continues to grow and grow until it explodes with a sparkling flourish.
 
Constant Lucidflow companion Tigerskin aka 'Dub Taylor' deepens the track. The obligatory dub chords are joined by a funk bass and computer processing beeps and bloops, resulting in a pure piece of robo-funk.
 
Lucidflow bosses Nadja Lind and Helmut Ebritsch take the opportunity to get playful with the melodic flourish of the track, splitting it into a lighter array of timbres and unexpected octaves while retaining the playful energy of the original.
 
Fresh from a recent debut on Lucidflow, Italian pairing Manna From Sky - Emanuele Mariani & Ermanno Vita - choose to keep things restrained as with Dub Taylor's rework. Its gentle groove acts as an aural sail for gaseous synth pads to breeze into, giving little nudges of momentum.

When not appearing on their own label, Nadja Lind and Helmut Ebritsch often guest on the imprints of friends they meet on their global travels. One such excursion recently was onto UK producer Tim Cook’s Wolf Trap. In order to keep cosmic balance in the universe, the reverse trip has been completed here on the Burden Of Logic EP, appearing here under the Sousk alias along with American producer Stefan Weise.

The pairing bring together the South East UK’s penchant for sprightly deep energy and the US’s easy going tech grooves. For example, take the pairing of When We Were Free and Lageos. The former is all about pace with subtle but frantic arps and sparkling 909 hats. Its bassline is grooving but urgent and the track grows to warm swells before stripping right back into the dash to the finish line.

In comparison, Lageos is much more languid. Like a cruise down an interstate highway, lit by the pale haze of urban street lighting, its chords gently swap around patterns while the foreground stabs filter in and out of prominence.

The third and title track itself, Burden Of Logic, sits between the two. The bassline is slippery tech incarnate, the percussion punctuated by a resonant clap, but the melodic elements are made up with a harmonic deep splutter, firing out in different places in your peripheral hearing.

As ever, Nadja and Helmut guest to make up the final spot on the package with a remix of When We Were Free. They take the powerfully driving original down a more Perlon-esque path with the elements heavily gated, organic percussion hits snapping into focus out of nowhere and reworking the frantic tech bassline of the original into some real fingertip funk.

Burden Of Logic hits the streets on 23rd May 2016.

Giuliano Rodrigues is back with his second solo EP on Lucidflow! A young talent from Brazil who has continuously enthused us with his brilliant minimalistic techno and driving rhythms.  The EP leads off with label boss’ Helmut Ebritsch remix on Unimaginable which lives up to its name - a bouncy number that opens up a whole bag of tricks over its duration. First digging itself into a dark hole with a shuffling rhythm, a cheeky synth lifts the mood before crunchy bass is deployed to snap the floor into step. These elements casually drift together to create a teasing finale that will keep the floor guessing to the last.  Unwavering is a dirty, dark, brooding and spacious track for never ending underground adventures. Constantly building, the warm low end's gentle insistence pushes against the hips while skittering percussion gives momentum to it's majestic pulse.  The marching, mechanical feel of Look At Me with its tight drum programming will get people out of their seats, unaware of what is to come. With the dancing set in motion, intoxicated vocal snippets swarm around the low end to create both a twitchy funk and tripped out effect.   Feeling The Space takes its time to unfold and chooses deep darkness as its motif, appropriate for the darker of the phenomenon; it gradually grows with prominence to a subdued crest before fading as it appeared. Last but not least the title track is the most typical of Lucidflow releases, heavily dub house influenced with sharp and intricate percussion that has a twinkle in its eye.  Each track on the package takes hold of the senses in a different way, twisting them so that time becomes an afterthought. Available 20.6.2016
