MANTRA opens their 2023 schedule with a new and much-anticipated single from label boss RONA. Hailing from Israel, RONA has quickly emerged from her country's avant-garde electronic music landscape. Noted for her transcendent vocals, attention to detail and inventive musicality, RONA's craft shines through vividly, making each one of her creations an absorbing experience. A five-year creative swell has seen RONA land well-received projects via Clubsonica, FSOE, Manual Music and UV Noir, while ultimately saving some of her most thought-provoking work for MANTRA. With 2023 getting underway with 'Deep Inside', a fashionable single written in conjunction with fellow countryman Amir Telem, RONA now returns to her comfortable home of MANTRA with a new single entitled 'Believe'.

Shot in high-definition and full of detail and drive, 'Believe' finds RONA flexing her freethinking muscles with a creation that lands comfortably in-between groove-centric science and hopeful musicality. A clever coaxing of arpeggiated sequences gets blanketed with glowing textural refrains for a perfect balance of rhythm and atmosphere. Meanwhile, warm emotional phrasing finds the Israeli artist at the peak of her lyrical power, with a message to believe in one's self through turbulent waters, ultimately staying the course and perhaps discovering the real gift is the journey itself. Also included for the less vocally included is a dub version which comes equally correct for the dance floor as well. It rounds out what is an excellent return to MANTRA for RONA, continuing what has been an excellent start to the year for the rising artist.

Following on from the success of ‘Believe', RONA returns to her MANTRA imprint with a much anticipated cover of ‘Can't Sleep' by Above & Beyond. Growing up in her home country of Israel in the early 2000s, RONA's formative and adolescence years were musically influenced by the vocal trance movement which was prominent at the turn of the millennium. The world's largest festivals and superclubs were dominated by the sound; a euphoric, high energy brand of dance music which was being led by the genre's treadsetters in Above & Beyond, Armin Van Buuren, ATB, Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk and more. Released in 2006 as part of their ‘Tri-state' album, ‘Can't Sleep' remains one of Above & Beyond's most recognizable songs, reaching number three in the year's ‘Best Track' polls, while showing a familiar emotional lean which has made the band so beloved across the last two decades. Now, looking to pay tribute to the iconic song, RONA unveils her cover of ‘Can't Sleep' just in time for the summer club and festival season.

While keeping the spirit of the original nicely intact, RONA brings a more modern sensibility to ‘Can't Sleep'. Pitched for today's tempo and featuring a deeper, more seductive approach, RONA crafts a sweeping sonic experience all her own, a heartfelt journey into an charming hinterland, where passionate vocals and hypnagogic designs surface from their mesmerizing architecture. Coming to full fruition across the main break, RONA's resonant wails and stirring melodies marry for moments of harmonic bliss, elevating mood with each successive pass, as the groove drops for an exhilarating finale. With the original version being a track which drew occasional electronic music fans deeper into the genre's far reaching vortex, RONA has more than captured that magic in a modern dance floor headspace, perfectly carrying forward the legacy of this inimitable production. significant track in RONA’s discography, giving us a rare look into her inventive world. It’s a sense of adventure and spirituality which fuels her creative process, and on ‘Lost in Space’ she navigates through different civilizations, star systems and states of consciousness, evoking a strong feeling of connectedness to space; one where her starseed nature finds pleiadians and aliens akin with similar phenotypes, peacefully transmitting messages for the earth’s greater good.

As the progressive rhythms and flickering percussion of the original mix unfold, it’s clear that RONA’s craft must be taken to heart. Warm rippling basslines cleverly co-ax with punchy beats and thought-provoking vocals, as an epic collage of sonic energies takes shape. The Israeli artist allows the journey to build patiently, exploring all paths for its astral flavoured sonics, carrying the listener away on a cosmic pilgrimage to reconnect with feelings of hope, freedom and possibility. The worldly arc of both the melodic and vocal elements parallels the increasing depth of RONA’s sonic palette, the latter of which is most impactful as she questions “Are we going back to where we start?”. It’s this starseed state of mind which resonates across RONA’s lyrical content, furthering her cosmic nature during one of the piece’s final and most thought-provoking moments, “I recognize you are my soul star from my group of lights. We are seeds of light. Lost in space. Are we going back to where we start? Seeds of light.” It’s this provocative narrative in combination with genuine musicality that finds RONA at her most dynamic, and most powerful. Meanwhile, the ‘Club’ Mix focuses firmly on the dance floor, expanding the running time to nine minutes and building its cosmic allure through greater drum depth, hypnagogic synth scapes and a less direct yet equally impactful vocal delivery.

The release concludes with djimboh making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Lost In Space’. Hailing from the UK, djimboh first emerged in 2019 with releases via Freegrant Music and Immersed. Quickly regarded for a sound that was both groovy and musical, the London resident continued to impress across the next two years, finding favour with a cross-section of the underground’s premiere tastemakers, while adding top tier imprints such as Clubsonica, Mango Alley, The Soundgarden and TRYBESof to his resume. Always a creative remixer, djimboh now adds MANTRA to his resume with a poignant take on ‘Lost in Space’. Opting for the emotive flavor on which he has built his career, the UK artist makes intelligent use of the vocal, while incorporating his own, uniquely distinctive quirks. Reshaped basslines flow through impassioned chord changes across the journey, as RONA’s reprocessed wails steal the air, all set against a backdrop of colourful atmospheres and wispy effects that are sure to charm even the most discerning of dancefloors. Also included for the less vocally inclined is a dub version, which not only adds depth and variety but rounds out the release on a strong note.

MANTRA continues what has been a great year with a special re-imagination for RONA's 'Vibration'. Originally released in 2020, it found the Israeli artist crafting a club-inspired slice of afro-house. Complete with RONA's distinctive vocal stylings and a buoyant percussive cadence, the nine-minute plus dancefloor escapade was a glimpse into the artist's unique storyboarding. With a captivating narrative centred around the vibration of sound, RONA's creative vision springs to life as the lyrical buzz of 'Sync', 'Code' and 'Vibration' steal the air, bringing with them feelings of connectedness and how it translates to people through waves of sound, ultimately uniting them on a deeper more emotional level. Now, three years on from its initial release, MANTRA boss RONA looks to bring new life to the timeless track with a special re-imagination, including a 2023 Remake from RONA herself, alongside remixes from Amir Telem and LevK. RONA's 'Remake' anchors the release with a modern progressive mood where much of the drums get stripped away in favour of an emerging musical story. Bending vocal phrasing plays out across pulsating grooves and hypnotic rhythmic sequences, perfectly setting the backdrop for panoramic melodies and balmy harmonics to work their magic, before ultimately coming to full fruition as glowing pads put a cap on this creative gem. Also providing a new interpretation of 'Vibration' is Amir Telem who makes his label debut here. Best known for his releases via Kindisch, Movement, Siona, Steyoyoke and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, the Israeli artist is in the midst of a creative swell. With one of 2023's highlights being 'Deep Inside', a special single track release in collaboration with RONA, Amir now re- imagines 'Vibration' in fine style for the summer club and festival season. From deep rhythmic beginnings comes fuzzy chord stabs and RONA's distinctive chops, playing out across a contemporary framework of rolling beats and clattering percussive arrangements. Sitting at the heart of the piece is a solemn sounding second act, providing a delicate interlude where rhythms rise and sentimental synths emerge, eventually joined once more by RONA's vocal for a soulful finale. Rounding out the release with the second and final interpretation of 'Vibration' is LevK who also makes his label debut. Although included on the 2020 release, Lev's version stands the test of time beautifully, as the Israeli artist maintains the soulful sensibility of the original, while incorporating his own emotive themes. Warm textural drifts and haunting arps converge as exotic drums and punchy beats push momentum forward. RONA's vocal drifts gently below the surface at opportune moments, acting as a driver of looping hypnotism, eventually giving way to a glowing finale which should not only fare well on the morning dance floors out there, but also rounds out the release on a stirring note.
