Fortsetzung deep story 156

Wir gehen zusammen die prachtvolle Allee entlang, welche kerzengerade auf die Zentrale zuläuft. Der Fremde stellt sich als Toben vor, aber alle nennen ihr nur „Lighter“, da er auf Raves immer genügend Feuerzeuge dabeihat, um in Notsituationen auszuhelfen. Automatisch erstellt mein Gehirn eine Notiz, dass Toben in Zukunft nützlich sein könnte. Er scheint schon länger bei ComRa zu sein, dass erkennt man an der Routine beim Betreten des Gebäudes. Handshake mit der Security danach ein kurzer Schwatz mit dem Empfang und ganz nebenbei werden die Formalitäten erledigt. In weniger als 5 Minuten hat er den Eintritt in die Zentrale gemeistert und grinst verschmitzt von der anderen Seite. „Wir sehen uns, dann in einer halben Stunde bei der Schulung!“, war das letzte was ich von ihm hörte, bevor er in den Weiten der Zentrale verschwand. Ich stand noch am Eingang direkt vor der Tür und brachte zunächst kein Wort raus.

„Bitte treten Sie vor und geben sie alle elektronischen Geräte ab“, brummte mich die Security an. Etwas verschüchtert krame ich in meinen Taschen, bevor ich auf die Idee komme nach dem „Warum?“ zu fragen. „Ich verfolge nur das Standard Sicherheitsprotokoll. Im Interesse seiner Mitarbeiter, nimmt ComRa den Datenschutz sehr ernst. Im Gebäude sind daher keine elektronischen Geräte erlaubt.“ Ich nicke und tue so als würde ich den Sinn hinter der Aussage verstehen. Außer meinem Handy habe ich keine weiteren Geräte bei mir. Dies solle ich mir beim Verlassen des Gebäudes wieder abholen. Des Weiteren erfolgte eine kurze Abtastung, wie beim Betreten eines Fußballstadions. Am Empfang wurde meine Personalien aufgenommen und der Grund meines Besuchs dokumentiert. Bei Lighter wurden die ganzen Sicherheitsmaßnahmen deutlich reduzierter durchgeführt. Vielleicht sieht er einfach vertrauenswürdiger als ich aus. Nach 20 Minuten hatte auch ich die andere Seite erreicht und konnte mich auf den Weg zur Schulung machen. Dabei wurde ich von zwei sehr schweigsamen Mitarbeiter der Security begleitet. Sie brachten mich auf den kürzesten Weg und schnellen Schrittes zum Schulungsraum. Auf meine Fragen reagierten sie nicht. Dabei hätte ich sehr gern gewusst, ob ich auch den Manager von ComRa heute treffen würde. Ich hätte da einige Verbesserungsvorschläge zu unterbreiten, um Effizienz und Wohlfühlfaktor in ein sinnvolles Gleichgewicht zu bringen. Stattdessen sitze ich allein auf einem unbequemen Stuhl und soll auf weitere Anweisungen warten. 

Ich lehne mich zurück und atme tief ein. Dabei fällt mir die Musik auf, welche sanft in der Umgebung ertönt. Ich kann nirgendwo Lautsprecher entdecken. Es scheint so als würde die Musik gleichmäßig aus allen Richtungen auf mich einströmen. Ich schließe die Augen und vergessen für einen Augenblick die Unannehmlichkeiten der letzten Minuten.

Lasst euch vom Stress des Alltags befreien und vergesst auch ihr für einen kurzen Augenblick die Welt um euch herum. We welcome the legendary producer and label cofounder of @8bit-records-mannheim , Gorge!

Gorge, aka Pit Waldmann’s musical journey is the story of a lifetime. From his teenage years as a pop drummer, to his vibrant DJ career, to his role as one of the most revered producers in the electronic scene, Gorge has always been hooked on the beat. „I grew up surrounded with a mix of trance, techno, house and hip-hop,“ he says. „It gave me a very open mind.“

His attitude and openness has fuelled a thriving career as DJ, producer, and co-owner, with Nick Curly, of 8bit Records. Gorge sees no reason to compartmentalise his music, or himself. As a young DJ in Mannheim, he combined working five days a week as a paramedic with playing in the city’s thriving club scene. „In the ’90s clubs were open every day of the week,“ he recalls with a laugh. „I was going to study medicine but the music infected me.“

Eventually Gorge gave up work as a paramedic to focus on music. He began releasing records in the early ’00s, experimenting with deep sounds. In 2005 he and musical comrade Nick Curly founded 8bit Records, which became one of the standout labels of forward thinking electronica. It pioneered minimal in its early years, before evolving into a deeper, groovier sound. „That’s when the real hype began,“ Gorge says.

Once it started, the hype never stopped. Gorge pushes his sound and builds his reputation with every release, every gig. „I’m not a DJ who plays the obvious tracks with the big breakdowns,“ he notes. „I show people you can have a good time with hypnotic, groovy stuff. Every night is different, but I always want to create an atmosphere in the club.“

It's by no means a coincidence that Tim Engelhardt released his debut album on Steve Bug's Poker Flat label at the tender age of 17 years old. For his musical education began a full decade earlier, when he made his first encounter with classical music theory on the piano at home. Influenced by the musical leanings of his parents, with Mike Oldfield's compositions being particularly formative, Tim soon discovered the tracks of Cologne producer Robert Babicz, shifting his focus to computers and synthesizers as the primary means of production. In the midst of a diverse new generation of young producers who'd source their inspiration from a whole range of genres, Tim kicked off his career as he released his first vinyl EP at the age of 14. It's the combination of a deep-running music knowledge and an intuitive playfulness that Tim has been cultivating since then, expressing itself in a great love for harmony and expanding melodic structures, paired with an organic flow and atmospheric density. As a result, Tim's impressive output of the past years found a home on labels like Poker Flat, Cityfox, Watergate, Fryhide, Innervisions, Vivrant and, most recently, on Oliver Koletzki's Stil vor Talent, where his second album 'Idiosynkrasia' was released in 2020. His work in the studio is only one side of the coin, however, as Tim has been touring the globe extensively, playing dance floors at festivals and clubs in Australia, Africa, India, Europe and the US. Here, Tim found a home away from home in New York, where the renowned Cityfox awarded him with a permanent residency at the super-club Avant Gardner. His continuous presence in the Big Apple culminated in the musical contribution to the New York Timesbestseller project 'The Outlaw Ocean' by journalist Ian Urbina. During the touring drought of the pandemic and thanks to his tireless research in the studio, Tim was able to make a name for himself as a sound engineer, upgrading the mixdowns of other artists. Additionally he released numerous sample packs and software templates in 2021, aiding young artists in their own production quests. Tim Engelhardt's vision for the future: Art with personality – art that holds a piece of its creator at its heart. His mission is to translate the sounds in his head into reality as convincingly as possible. Which explains why Tim's productions don't really sound like the standard DJ fodder, as he delivers a well-rounded musical vision to the club floor, that is just as awe inspiring on the hi-fi system of your living room.

Julie/Anne, a passionate music lover and a very talented emerging artist from the Montreal underground music scene. Born out of the underground through the encounter of the prog and the techno. This brought her in 2015 to get into djing, and she did it her way by only following her strong intuition and musical sense and most of all by self-teaching herself.

As 2020 was turning out to be a nightmare for many of us, Julie/Anne (CAN) rose to the occasion, leaving an indelible mark in music lovers’ hearts. Back in February 2020, after she literally floored everyone at Velvet Speakeasy (a well-known venue in Montreal), she continued spreading her love of music in many ways, as everything was shutting down. She made her mark with her FB live sessions, recorded collabs with Paris (France), Oslo (Norway), collaborated with SuperSonic Gin to curate an amazing Spotify playlist featuring local electronic productions as well as being invited on AfterHours.FM. Julie/Anne has also a passion in lending a hand to help great causes. That’s why she is involved with FK en Musique, a non-profit organisation that raises awareness and funds to help cure Cystic Fibrosis by sharing musical experiences. She is implicated not only as a DJ, but also as an artistic director, marketing consultant (as she has over 20 years of experience in that domain) and member of the board of direction. One of her biggest accomplishments so far, has been the opportunity to open for Eekkoo (Canadian producer - mau5trap) at Piknic Electronik in July 2021, the most sought out summer event in Montreal. When dancefloors shortly reopened again in November 2021, she had the privilege to be invited at Salon Daomé, Espac3 and Nhau bar.

As she never stops evolving, Julie/Anne recently decided to pair up with producer Lilla Støv and is currently working on her first productions. |Wolken| is now available on all digital platforms and received early support from Hernan Cattaneo.

In terms of musical styles, Julie/Anne does not define herself as a “one genre” DJ. She creates sound journeys that weave various textures and sounds, whether they come from the melodic house, dark progressive, even organic and afro sides. As a true artist, she crafts her sets according to the desired ambiance, but always with her unique storytelling. If you are lucky enough to attend one of Julie/Anne’s gigs, you will rapidly find that she’s a true, authentic, and very passionate artist who just loves to perform live in front of music lovers from everywhere. There’s just an indescribable energy about her that makes you ask for more.
