A familiar name within the underground house fraternity, Rafal Ligienza has been at the vanguard of his country's music scene through his Rafa'EL moniker. Operating out of his Wysoka home in north central Poland, Rafa'EL has been developing his innovative sound for nearly 15 years.

Making his debut on Usessions Records in 2013, the Polish star has subsequently been a regular on Particles, centred around a pair of original EPs in 2015's "Twin Flames" and 2019's "Floating Moments". Remixes for Rauschhaus, Mariner + Domingo and Juan Deminicis have shone a light on another side of Rafa'EL's production talent as he now returns with "Light the Shades". The title track flows with deliciously rolling groove and clicking percussive top line as a melancholic piano progression adds gravitas. Evolving with ease, a sultry synth line makes its intermittent presence felt, while a stripped back breakdown provides the perfect vehicle for melodic elements and spoken vocal sample to shine before a twinkling arpeggio opens up a moment of magic in the second half. "Overload" immediately hits hard with its strong beat and chunky rhythm, while a deep bassline and muted synth stabs play in syncopated fashion. Arpeggio and growling analogue synth add to the sonic collage as a symphony of melodic components converge in counterpoint heaven, culminating in a gated reverse sequence that heralds a drop for rhythm and groove to showcase dancefloor prowess in the latter stages.

Finding a home on Proton Music with such memorable outings as 2019's "Organik" and "Sunsweat" EPs, Imran Khan has also created a strong sonic identity on Particles with 2018's "Arrival", plus a clutch of remixes for the likes of Kamilo Sanclemente, Savvas and Chihaka, in February 2022. Returning to Particles, the Imran Khan remix brings a trademark depth to his reworking of "Light the Shadows". Enveloped in powerful rhythmic heft, a growling bassline and breathy effects pave the way for elements from the original to forge a new path, away from the melancholy of Rafa'EL's work, creating a tension-filled offering that revels in white-noise effects and hypnotic groove. Allowing the emotive keys and pads from "Light the Shadows" to shine during the breakdown, Imran Khan brings them sharply into focus alongside his deep groove-oriented and dynamically rhythmic offering.

An artist with over a century of production credits to his name, dating back to a 2018 debut for 3xA Music, Jorge Viana has continued to make a name for himself with music signed to the likes of Mango Alley, Freegrant Music and Dopamine White. From Rosario in the Sante Fe province, Jorge Viana continues to impress during a relatively short career thus far. Now the Argentinean artist makes his debut with an intricate rhythmic backdrop that captures listener interest through imaginative use of the central melodic found in "Overload". Creating a new central motif, familiar elements wax and wane with throughout the complex percussive backdrop. A powerful effects-fuelled breakdown opens up a new direction before melodic fragments filter into range in a glitched and dramatic zenith.

Making their debut on Manual Music, Dutch duo Around Us present their album ‘Reaching Home’. Here's the second EP leading up to the LP release later this year.

Based in Amsterdam, Around Us first emerged in 2018, quickly establishing themselves as a rising act with releases via Balkan Connection’s BC2 and long-standing Dutch imprint LuPS Records. World class DJ and progressive music tastemaker Hernan Cattaneo was the first to chime in with support. Showcasing one of the duo’s early productions ‘Sleeping Blue’ as part of his hugely popular Resident podcast. A bond with the Manual Music collective was also formed early on, as the well-received ‘Voyager’ EP landed in 2019 courtesy of label affiliate Cinematique. Four years later and Around Us now sits on a well-kept resume, with key projects on Click Records, Clubsonica, Freegrant Music and Manual Music’s progressive minded MNL division, all serving as vehicles for the duo’s deep and groovy sounds. Continuing on an upwards trajectory, Around Us now presents their first ever album project entitled ‘Reaching Home’ care of Paul Hazendonk’s Manual Music.

Around Us’ capacity for storytelling - both comforting and challenging - resonates across the album’s second showcase piece ‘Homecoming’. Shot in high-definition and full of detail and idiosyncrasies, it's a poignant voyage where the duo explores a storyboard of indistinct vocal arrangements, balmy swells and meandering musical coactions. The duo reaffirms their instinctive ability to tip a dancefloor over the edge with ‘I Got This’, planting multiple explosions of serotonin through fluttery synths, panoramic arps and retro acid lines, before confidently returning to the groove for a sweeping aerial final. 

Continuing on a lighter monochrome, it is the haunted atmospherics and wavy motifs of ‘New Dawn’ which melt down into the soundscape science of ‘Good Enough’, a downtempo creation where vocal wails steal the air against a backdrop of arpeggiated acrobatics.

"Featured on the release in order of appearance are: Maxi Degrassi, Govidina, EANP, Federico Monachesi, John Cosani and Emi Galvin. 

Returning to the label for his third appearance and leading the collection off is Maxi Degrassi. The Buenos Aires resident goes deep with ‘Tristana’ which likely sits as his all time best work. Backed by a warm, spacious groove it’s serene atmospheres and dulcet motifs make for a tepid seven minute journey. Next up Govinda returns to the label following his ‘Curuzu’ EP with a brand new production entitled ‘Eucaliptus’. It’s buzzing low end immediately sucks you in with fluid chord changes and bulbous character. Cascading tones add a haunting vibe before a fiery arp seals it’s brilliance. Next up and making their label debut are EANP aka Ezequiel Anile & Nicolas Petracca. Although the duo have been working together since 2014 it was only this year which saw the creation of the EANP moniker. With an EP for Movement already in the pipeline we get a taste of what’s to come with ‘Before I Fall’. Deep and punchy from the outset it’s a piece built on dark electronics and ominous atmospheres. Running through a variety of motifs from vocal stabs to tension filled tones, it reaches an emotional peak during the break with hopeful pads and a sizzling build to light up your dance floor. 

The halfway point of the collection finds Federico Monachesi also making his label debut with ‘Raspberry Lagoon’. Full of vibrant tones, blissful harmonics and warm designs it’s a wondrous nine minute journey for the heart and mind. It’s smooth storyboard and effortless approach are perhaps it’s strongest suits, making it ideal for a magical sunrise set. Next up is Movement artist."

"Debuting on Or Two Strangers' March 2019 compilation "Strangers," "Telephone Days" stood out as a progressive house gem from Argentinean duo Artfaq. Now receiving the Yin and Yang remix treatment, reworkings come from Italian and Indian artists.

Operating out of his Bangalore home, performing at the Sunburn, Ctrl Alt Dance and Krank festivals and producing music across a raft of blue-chip imprints, Weird Sounding Dude continues to find himself in high demand. Drawing inspiration from the sounds of James Holden's Border Community label, his own production work has graced luminary imprints such as Plattenbank, Traum and Praveen Achary's Juicebox Music. With regular support coming from Hernan Cattaneo, Cid Inc and Barry Jamieson, a pair of remixes for Yin reworking Anthony Yarranton and Navar is now followed by a third.

Taking on "Telephone Days," the Weird Sounding Dude remix immediately provides a "sit up and take notice" moment through its chest-thumping kick and high-energy, shaker-fueled percussion. Melodic soundscapes from the Artfaq original pepper proceedings, as a hypnotic motif shines through before a new searing lead-line punctures the textured atmosphere with ease. The pulsating rhythmic melange takes hold again in the third movement before the lead once again hits its mark in the final stages.
