Following her appearance at our first Manual Smiles party at The Cause in October, we're extremely excited to welcome the talented @aquamarine_mp3 to mint our new mix series, the Manualcast. 

The US-born, London-based Wet Dreamz founder offers us an hour of progressive melodies, rich synth work and fast-paced rhythm with a gorgeous 90s touch.

"In conceiving this mix, I was inspired by Enno’s vision for the series: psychedelia in all its forms! I wanted to unite classic psytrance motifs and 90s-influenced prog with groovy spiralling percussion. Enno’s own productions inspired me to take a dive into the more acid-drenched reaches of my collection, uncovering 303s that are at times dark and menacing, at others bright and euphoric. Above all, I wanted it to be a very danceable hour for all my home-ravers out there" - Aquamarine

For this new podcast platform, we invite friends and family from the label to dig deep into their record collection to tell a story in psychedelic tracks. We encourage artists to take us on a trip through the unique shades that mark their sound, a brief Alex has smashed.

Rhythm Section Future Proof & Selextorhood artist @ldazedj delivered a fantastic journey through trance that led us deep into the night, a set that's become one of our favourite times on the dancefloor last year, alongside equally wicked sets from Aquamarine, Hannd, Heavy Skin, Kitsta and n_o.

MANUALCAST004 - Heavy Skin

Command Control’s debut EP, ‘Essence’, kicks off with ‘Snappd’. First heard on Freddy K’s Krzrzrz radio show in 2022, its peak-time rhythms and tumbling chords finally see a release on our upstart Brussels-via-London label. It’s followed by the classic-in-the-making title track, ‘Essence’, featuring an old-school ‘90s vocal, stripped-back techno drums, and dubbed-out synth work, making for an earworm hit that will find a home in a wide range of DJ sets.

Up next, Command Control’s ‘Nazar’ picks up pace. Steady bells keep the tempo as its hammering drums punch through, leaving ‘Essence’s dub elements behind for a high-energy, tear-out techno workout. Closing out this versatile offering from the promising London-based artist, ‘Saklikent’ then takes us on a real trip through dubby sonics, complete with sizzling high hats and mind-warping melodies.

Swedish artist @kajsavillius lands on Enno’s Manual Smiles imprint with the five-track ‘Baltic Blue’ EP, following recent instalments on the label by Nickon Faith, FROND, and Command Control. Throughout the release, Villius showcases her expert feel for groove through layers of alien sonics, each element serving a purpose while they zap, beep, and whirr. Title track ‘Baltic Blue’ hits the ground running as a progressive techno-meets-trance cut, an unfiltered bassline coursing through hard-hitting kicks as its melodies bounce along liquid 303s, faint sounds of a mysterious creature echoing inside the soundscape.

Kajsa Villius continues with ‘Hear Me Nix’, a pumping kick-bass combo hooking us from the start as skittering percussion and aquatic synths work together before dropping into high-energy dance floor fury. Emerging from the waters, Kajsa’s ‘Baltic Blue’ EP enters the sweltering sounds of ‘Heat Wave’, in which she opts for bursts of raw low-end, dubstep rhythms and foreboding synth hits for a left-field curveball that’s sure to spin some heads before ‘Serpent’s Deep’ submerges again via a whirlpool of droning sequences and snaking acid lines for six minutes of mind-melting psychedelia. ‘Sweet Inferno’ then is the ultimate trance closer in which gated vocals alternate organic percussion as its scorching bassline hypnotises, dropping the curtain on this stylish and eclectic collection of intergalactic sounds.

Based between Stockholm and Berlin, Kajsa Villius has put out releases on Hörz Audio and Manual Smiles veteran Kitsta’s Megababes imprint. She now offers her forward-thinking, club-ready sounds to Manual Smiles with her own entry on the label via the ‘Baltic Blue’ EP, already supported by the likes of D. Tiffany, Elena Colombi, Daniel Avery, HAAi and Spray.

New SPND20 Mixtape just landed, welcome @olateks! 📼

Resident of Warsaw’s Jasna 1 and driving force behind the legendary Move Mózg series, Ola Teks has been shaping Poland’s electronic scene with sets that flow between deep techno and classic house  - always guided by intuition and emotion. Recognized by platforms like Boiler Room, Arte Concert, and Mixmag, she’s built a reputation for turning every dancefloor into a story.

Her SPND20 mix is both a showcase of her own sound and a tribute to the spirit of the Spandau family, whose energy has accompanied her since the very start. Fittingly, Ola was the first to bring FJAAK & SPANDAU20 abroad, booking us in Poland back in 2011/2012 - a milestone that still means a lot to us today.

Recorded at home in Warsaw, the mix begins with an intimate glow, rises into full club intensity, and lands gently back down. Along the way: spacious textures, tribal grooves, melancholic-yet-uplifting energy, timeless gems like I:Cube’s 11 Novembre, fresh fire from BAUGRUPPE90 and Cult, an unreleased track by Contakt, plus local heat from 2shy of Privet Press.
