At the start of the year, Romar celebrated the tenth release on his label Bleu Ciel. With a decade of artistry behind him, the French producer has been championing the platform alongside another – RORA. The back catalogue features plenty of his own, as well as a host of artists like Rinaldo Makaj, Cosmjn, Iuly.B and Priku providing serious bits for the Swiss-based label. Costas is next up to join the roster.

For a while now he has been serving up rolling grooves shrouded in atmospheric melodies directly from the shores of Spain. Receiving recent playtime from the ever deep and eclectic Cocoon leading lady Danah Ruh, Costas’ own label is now on its first vinyl only. After a well received opening release from Luca Piermattei, Fresh Tunez have announced their second installment. At the controls this time they have DJ Gerald aka Himalaya Juice Culture, the “For President“ EP contains five tracks that meander through various dance floor influences, each of them providing a warm and enriched experience.

Diving in at the deep end is “M.RX7” a pacey and energetic quest, living up to the playful and animated ethos of the label, spacey synths circulate the belly of the track. The sleek and silky sounds of “Weakand” create an inviting atmosphere for the listener, as you become absorbed by the deep and emotional chords, and tight drum arrangements.

Riding a squiggling groove on the B side is “Stuva”, subtle acid tinges lace the track enabling it to heat up any given dancefloor. B2 “Yamaha” shows some real intelligent tenacity, and versatility in DJ Gerald’s sound. Melt in your mouth pads breathing life into the glitchy broken drums. A fitting end to the EP is “Hey Hey Stay One”, a two and a half minute trip of unique and blissful textures to ease you out of the release.

The System Error brand continues to shine in recent times with a slew of high quality and sought after releases under their belt, showing no signs of slowing down over the next period, with TUNEZ002 being a fantastic addition to the refined catalogue.

Number 13th on our nugcast series comes from an amazing artist that we had the pleasure to work with in our first record.

@philevans_sc is a Mainz born and Frankfurt based DJ and Producer. He is the Co-founder of Pager Records and runs a residency at Robert Johnson Club in Offenbach.

Production wise he could land some great EPs on Labels like Blankstate, Sensual, Twig, Vigenere and of course on Pager Records. His release “Saniti EP” on raum…musik which was listed on Resident Advisors Best Tracks of 2018 attracted worldwide on him as a Producer.

These releases also helped him being booked as a DJ with gigs in the US, Asia and Europe. In Germany he played in iconic Clubs like Robert Johnson, CDV, Hoppetosse, Tresor, Parker Lewis to name a few.

Phil’s always on the hunt for great music ranging from classic US house groovers over Minimal to funked-out Techno whippers so you’re definitely in for a treat on your next party.

Matt Anderson has been a regular on Say What? favs Wex and sublabel Day By Day, so it’s hardly a surprise that his track on this VA from Space Lab also caught our ear. In a compilation that dives headlong into the depths of psychedelic breaks, electro and trance, Anderson’s whimsically named ‘Tasty Water Stuff’ stands out for its patient pace and spacious sound stage, the tribal and trancey flourishes finessed into a chugging mover that will serve for warm-up and crack-on alike. Anderson manages to release quality after quality while maintaining his own distinct sound. In our opinion he is one of the most talented and exciting producers on the circuit – hats off!
