Inspired by the German techno-minimal and micro-house school and deeply influenced by the sound of Eastern Europe, Simone Adinolfi is an eclectic artist who blends shades of several musical genres into a single minimal frame, always trying to keep the groove complex and consistent. After years as resident of many collectives in his hometown Milan he founded Sound Bakery in 2016, continuing to share the decks with some of the best artists of the minimal scene.

His versatility along with a constant music research took him to play in many countries around Europe and outside. In 2019 Simone gave birth to his vinyl-only label No Rush with the purpose of covering the multiple faces of his musical vision and creativity, releasing music from him and artists he values the most. This podcast session was recorded live @ Sound Bakery x Picnic on 21st November 2021

As the London-based NorthSouth Records enter their fifth year they also arrive at their tenth release. After a run of artist EPs NSR returns to the split format to deliver 4 tracks from two of the label’s founding members; Sam Bangura and Harry McCanna.

On the North side we hear Sam’s first cuts pressed to vinyl for the imprint. Shining with his characteristic sound of bubbling melodies, refined grooves and tied together with a growling low end, ‘Jaspe’s Groove’ and ‘Marble Leg’ are two driving tunes aimed straight for those facemelting late-night moments.

Heading down to the South side we catch Harry working again under his alias Henry Hyde. ‘More Days Inside’ starts things off on something of a mellow tip, whilst still being a functional track for the dance floor. ‘Wading Through’ on the other hand offers up shuffling percussion, spacey synth plucks and one of Harry’s signature squirmy, swarming basslines.

It’s an EP that showcases some of the signature NorthSouth sounds and who better for it to come from than two of it’s own.

Next on the agenda for the Orbital London label is a tasty four tracker from label boss man, Jack Michael and bass specialist, Inner Zone. The Drenched Volume EP is made up of one original and one remix from the accomplished producers, ravey breaks and garage energy with a modern day punch.

Jack’s “Volume” track boots off the EP in true Orbital style, distinctive broken drums, a warm winding bassline and trippy pads and synths all working together to make this a d floor destroyer in the coming months. Inner Zone’s “Volume” remix follows on the A side, pitched up and high energy from the get go and maintains a raw and in your face liveliness throughout.

On the flip Inner Zone lays down their original “Rainforest Sound” aptly named from the killer vocal sample they’ve used throughout. This one is cut directly for the moodier occasions bringing a deep and mysterious flavour to the dance floor. Rounding off the EP is Jack’s remix of “Rainforest Sound”, another enormous sound from the English talent, rough and ready with choppy drum work.

Orbital continuing to propel their UK sound loud and proud with this one!

Firing on all cylinders in 2022 is Italian house pushing label, Black Box Records. Marking the fifth release on the label is a four track vinyl VA that packs a punch. Behind the controls for the EP they have called on a healthy selection of artists including Land 9, Shacklo, DJ GLC and label founder, Vito Fattore. Dynamic dance floor heat from four budding artists. 

Launching you into the release is Land 9 who provides an infectious number with a killer depth and groove at the heart of the track. “4MAI” twists and turns blissfully, utilising a killer vocal sample which instantly lifts the mood of the listener. Shacklo’s “Another Liability” is a crisp and punchy encounter with a certain spring in its step, tight and rolling from the get go, ready for the peak times. Dreamy pads doing the business here. 

On the flip side is DJ GLC’s “Euro Dream”, a huge sound here from the talented Italian, four to the floor elasticated grooves throughout, nodding to the title of the track. Smooth synths manoeuvre their way around the driven structure of the track. Shutting things down is label founder Vito Fattore with his “Since “87” bomb, rough and ready, cruising on a wobbling bass line before being met with housey chords, igniting the flame of the track. 

Black Box Records proved once more they are enforcers of classy house cuts that are ripe and ready for the dance floor, with plenty more in the pipeline for this year.

Next up in our quest to ascertain musical majesty, we bring you Parasol Culture bossman @thomabulwer. “Raised in Techno, schooled in UKG, cemented in House” - one hell of a sound bite and the keys to the foundation of being a frontline selector. Naturally Thoma’s mix shifts between garage-aligned tech house, hypnotic tripped-out rhythms and straight-up 4x4 rudeness. We simply adore the weirdness and we don’t care who knows.

Firstly, a bit about the man. Regularly observed within his natural habitat at the Lion & Lamb, Thoma has become suitably accustomed to featuring on lineups alongside the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Burnski and Voigtmann to name but a select few. Aside from the residency, he has frequented respected venues such as The Cause and the world-famous Fabric. This man is no stranger to controlling a dance floor and relaying his vision via succinct sonic debauchery.

When he’s not playing to an enraptured crowd, he can be found in his bespoke studio crafting musical treats, the likes of which have featured on labels like Seven Hills, Alternate Facts and of course his own label Parasol Culture which just so happens to have dropped a limited run of dubplates only yesterday. Happy accident? Yes, no and maybe.

This mix is guaranteed to get you moving no matter where you are on this ludicrous hellscape we call Earth. Now off you go to drink, be merry and make the most of today.
