Diary entry 6.6.21, 'Be Thou My Vision on the Road'

The traditional melody, 'Slane' is an old Irish folk tune associated with the ballad "With My Love on the Road" in Patrick W. Joyce's Old Irish Folk Music and Songs (1909). It became a hymn tune when it was arranged by David Evans (PHH 285) and set to the Irish hymn "Be Thou My Vision."

The hymn lyrics are believed to have been written by the sixth century Irish poet, Dallán Forgaill. Mary Elizabeth Byrne, M.A. (July 2, 1880 – January 19, 1931) translated the Old Irish Hymn, "Bí Thusa 'mo Shúile," into English as "Be Thou My Vision" in 1905.

The number of verses and some of the phrases differ in various sources.
 
Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart,
naught be all else to me save that thou art;
thou my best thought in the day and the night,
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word,
I ever with thee and thou with me Lord;
thou my great Father, and I thy true heir;
thou in me dwelling, and I in thy care.

Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight,
be thou my armour, and be thou my might,
thou my soul's shelter, and thou my strong tow'r,
raise thou me heav'nward, O Pow'r of my pow'r.

Riches I need not, nor all the world's praise,
thou mine inheritance through all my days;
thou, and thou only, the first in my heart,
high King of heaven, my treasure thou art!

True light of heaven, when battle is done,
grant heaven's joy to me, O bright heav'n's sun;
Christ of my own heart, whatever befall,
still be thou my vision, O Ruler of all.

The wolf pack you hear on the files are recorded in Sweden last summer. More specific in Bergslagen. An area with wonderful nature, forests and wilderness.

A quiet summer night, light fog over the moors in the forests you can hear this wonderful concerts. But you need to know where In Sweden, there are only around 35 wolf packs.

This pack consists of the alpha male and the female, three youngsters from last year and five puppies from this year.

On this first file, in a series, are the three youngsters from last year on their own. The distance between me and the wolf pack is around 175 yards / 160 meters. Between us is a moor with light fog. It is a wonderful nordic summer night with no wind.

This is one of my first recordings with a Telinga PRO-8 MK2 stereo parabolic dish connected to a ZOOM recorder. 
Recordings have some post production. 

The howling wolf in the picture is the alpha female of the pack.
