Après avoir rematé l'épisode où cette chanson apparaît , je me suis dit qu'elle avait un gros potentiel en tant que chanson punk rock californienne... Et je me suis pas trompé, j'avais l'impression de faire du NOFX ou du Lagwagon en l'enregistrant, ce qui n'est pas pour me déplaire !

Histoire de se calmer un peu sur cette habitude de faire du punk très gras, je me suis amusé à faire une reprise acoustique de ce morceau emblématique de Fidlar, en prenant quelques libertés avec la structure. Parce que ouais, quand t'as pas les grosses guitares qui tâchent dans la prod, t'es obligé de trouver des tours de passe-passe.

La dernière fois qu'on postait quelque chose, c'était la reprise d'un groupe de punk en mode folk, tout posé. Du coup, je fais maintenant l'inverse, en reprenant en version bien keupon une chanson de country blues hyper posée du grand Mississippi John Hurt que je joue déjà en acoustique, tout en picking... C'est sûr que ça change, mais ça fonctionne toujours aussi bien !

Dans la catégorie "on ré-enregistre douze fois les parties voix et on passe des jours à faire des micro-ajustements sur le mix", celle-là mérite un Oscar ! A la base, j'avais trouvé un bout de la mélodie sur le piano de la gare de Valence, et par la suite, j'ai pas mal creusé dans le sillon du Canon de Pachelbel pour en arriver là. L'intro m'a pas mal fait penser à une vieille chanson de Neil Young, mais y'a peut-être aussi l'influence de Judee Sill sur la chanson, en général, vu que j'ai beaucoup écouté ça, ces temps-ci... En tout cas, c'était intéressant de l'enregistrer avec seulement du piano et des flûtes, ça me sort de mes habitudes de guitariste. Et pour l'anecdote, le titre fait référence à "Help it make it through the night" de John Holt !

Les paroles de celle-là ont été inspirées par un article paru dans le journal Fakir N°90, qui parlait du procès fait à la société Orange sur de sombres histoires de pressions managériales, qui avaient donné suite à des suicides parmi les employés de la boîte… Le papier s’appelait « La banalité de leur mal », il a été écrit par Cyril Pocréaux, et illustré par Francis Buchet.
