EXPLOR PODCAST #1 - ADRIFT

Fresh from a run of strong releases to close last year, Extrasketch boss Butane is hitting 2022 in fine form as he builds upon a wealth of killer club-focused ammunition released via his labels Extrasketch and Little Helpers over the past 12 months. Opening the year in style, he begins with a rough and ready two-track EP on home turf as he delivers his ‘Exploitation’ EP. 

Opening cut ‘Infoslut’ is a hazy and rolling production, fusing brooding 303 lines alongside tense, taught drums and a club-shaking bassline. ‘Touch’ keeps the acid flowing while swirling female and warped male vocals transport things into the late night hours.

Butane and Riko Forinson’s rich stream of quality collaborations continues to build as the Extrasketch boss and talented Italian continue to build one of the most prolific studio partnerships in electronic music. Flexing their production prowess and showcasing their diverse range once again, the duo delve deep into the late-night hours as they combine across four expansive productions for their latest EP, ‘Light Out’. 

Title cut ‘Lights Out’ welcomes a winding journey through dubby textures and smoky atmospheres, carrying late-night dancers in unison with its rolling groove. ‘Anagram’ ups the energy as subtle synth interjections meet crisp drum licks and echoing vocals, while ‘City Nights’ sees light and darkness meet effortlessly, capturing sonics and soundscapes from across a hazy metropolis. To close, the deep-diving ‘Stalker’ continues to transcend to further depths as delicate pockets of space ebb and flow amongst shadowy pads and further swirling chord work.

John Tejada and Arian Leviste are back on Areal after their much celebrated release “Reactance“.
These guys are working for 25 years together meeting up weekly in the studio to try new things. They say themselves that it is their longest and most special collaboration. They use mainly hardware with an old school mind set that comes more from the early 80s NYC hip hop culture than anything else. Early pioneers misusing gear and making the best of their limitations. Their newest release “Hysteresis“ comes along strongly functional for the club.

With February's "Ronan Point" ep still wrecking the dancefloors and proving itself to be one of the labels strongest debut releases, Italian duo Macromism return to SCI+TEC with their latest smash, "District Zero." 

Having forged a more minimal path on their early recordings for the likes of Polar Noise and Zoo Technique, it was Mattia & Eugenio's 2011 releases for Inmotion and Carlo Lio's Rawthentic Music, that saw the duo explore the deeper side of tech-house, to great success. 

2012 kicked off at pace and saw Macromism feature their music on Break New Soil, Suara, Kling Klong, Kiara and of course their debut for SCI+TEC. Their latest for the label is lead by "District Zero," otherwise known as the dancefloor. Right, here, right now, on that very spot, the demonic vocal instructs us to move, shake, dance and get sweaty… And backed by the hypnotic beats and stabbing synth riff its impossible not to. 

"News From Barcelona" on the flip takes the far more straight up, heads down approach as it powers forward from the off. Piercing hats and a lurking bassline lay the foundation before we break for some Pathe news. Whilst the broadcast is more British than Spanish, Macromism's beats are firmly rooted in the mediterranean.
