Nel frattempo was derived from Il Circolo del Frattempo, a platform emerging in Zurich to stimulate collaborations between people with diverse experiences and skillsets, engaging the public through events, performances, and interdisciplinary installations curated by MADAM & -OUS. 

In 2020, when Covid-19 forced us all to a state of lockdown, we decided to let our Circolo shift its shape into a residency called NEL FRATTEMPO involving international artists from different backgrounds.

During 6 months we’ve managed to spend more time focusing on the process, without worrying too much about the form it would take during the public presentation. To cope with the needs suddenly created during the lockdown and isolation, the initial idea was to raise funds to be distributed equally to the artists we’ve seen for some time now and that we’ve gotten to know better over time. We immediately decided that the curation should operate through subtraction, avoiding added input or guides to the creative course of each single artist, aware that this period and historic context would inevitably influence everyone, albeit at different levels.
For that MADAM asked everyone to continue working on an existing project or even a hypothesized one, rather than starting something from scratch. As expected, means, channels and processes were met with the new limits and stimuli imposed by the extraordinary situation.

At the same time we were asked to curate the zero-edition of INCF MAGAZINE, a new platform released in print and digital combining culture on different levels - what a perfect match to combine with the residency outcomes. 

From March to July 2021 all these outcomes will be presented online on the following channels:

Topic: Mood at the beginning of the lockdown

Waiting for the daily press conferences with the latest figures and regulations. Feelings of standing still, paralysis, dependence, isolation, insecurity and also relaxation.

The idea was to record something with live instruments, immediately, not reflecting too much and not using a theoretical approach.
And in parallel to the sound experiments, I tried for the first time to convert Chinese cabbage into a Korean kimchi, using fermentation. This process suited the situation of waiting in the lockdown very well.

Lea Bertucci is a composer, performer and sound artist whose work describes relationships between acoustic phenomena and biological resonance. In recent years, her projects have expanded toward site-responsive and site-specific sonic investigations of architecture. Deeply experimental, her work is unafraid to subvert musical expectation.

DEATH RATTLE, DOG WHISTLE is a series of short pieces for wooden flute, field recordings taken from my window in real time, some works for tape and another piece for organ and saxophone, that Lea Bertucci did for the residency Nel Frattempo during the first lockdown in 2020.

Lea Bertucci - DEATH RATTLE, DOG WHISTLE (Nel Frattempo Residency 2020)

Carla Boregas was born and raised in São Paulo, Brasil. Interested in
encounters and situations that can occur through sound practices, she
explores the manipulation of synthesizers, bass, pre-recorded and
electroacoustic sounds with a focus on repetition, textures and sensoriality, creating immersive atmospheres and also expansive soundscapes, both in her solo work or in collaboration with other artists.

As a solo artist, she has performed in São Paulo, Tokyo, Toronto and México City. Carla is also part of the transdisciplinary duo Fronte Violeta and RAKTA. Her most recent work is the album “Linha D'Água” (Bokeh Versions/Uk , in partnership with multi-instrumentalist M.Takara.
